When you are ready for a baby’s arrival, buying a crib is the first step you will take to ensure the comfort of the new family member. For new parents, a crib is a necessary investment to provide a comfortable and safe place for the baby to sleep. But with so many choices available today, which is the best type of crib for your baby.

The answer would depend a lot on the budget, needs, and availability of your space. Here are some steps to make sure you have made the right choice in selecting a crib.

Safety is one of the main features you need to ensure while selecting a crib. Check the certification so that you can be sure that rigorous testing has been done to ensure the cribs’ safety. You can check your safety; for example, the crib slats cannot exceed 2 3/8 inch on each side so that the baby’s head does not slip.

Completely avoid models that have cut off the heads and may risk the baby’s head getting caught or falling. Many cribs with cut heads were discontinued following the owners’ complaints. Make sure the mattress heights are adjustable, and if you choose a convertible, make sure all the accessories are present; otherwise, you will have to pay extra for a new one. Make sure that the drop-side is not released too easily. Otherwise, the child can open it easily.

Tips for selecting the right crib size

The crib size matters a lot in ensuring the safety of your baby. The most important step is to check the size of the crib, especially the mattress if it fits. A typical crib interior usually measures 51 3/4 inches long by 27 3/4 inches wide.

One way to test if the crib is small is to put two fingers between the mattress; the mattress may be too small. The incorrect size can cause the child to slip to the side of the bed or under the mattress, which can fatally injure the child. You need to ensure that all the legs are the same height and width to prevent any damage.

The best cribs have features that make them easy to use. Some parents prefer a traditional crib so that it is easier to access. Cots of this type are offered either as a unilateral drop-down list or as a double drop-down list. So you have to decide which one you prefer. Of course, this is not the most important variable, but the idea is that you want to get the crib that has what you want. And if you are not familiar with how to transition baby to crib, we can give you a step by step guide.

If you want more of a modern twist, then a convertible crib might be what you are looking for. Initially, they are more expensive than traditional cribs, but they are also more versatile and can be used for much longer.

You can get a 3-in-1 convertible cot that can be turned into a crib and a daybed or a 4-in-1 crib that can be turned into a large bed. With the latter, you may never have to buy a bed for your baby again. This saves you a lot of time and money. Many convertible cots are also some of the most beautiful cribs you will find.

You should also pay attention to the materials that make up the crib. The best baby crib is made of solid wood such as beech and pine. Some cribs also have visible accessories, which means that nuts, screws, and metal parts are displayed. This may or may not matter to you, but it does affect the overall look of the crib. How strong is the crib? A great way to evaluate this is to read customer reviews if you can’t see them in person.
