INTERIOR DESIGN TRENDS INSPIRED BY THE OUTDOORS : 5 Trends You Need To Know

As many of us got settled into working from home during the course of the pandemic, many of us got rounder and softer, and now our furniture is reflecting our shape. Spending so much time indoors has shown us how important it is to bring elements of the outdoors inside.

In this post, we’ll explore 5 new trending advancements in interior decoration as well as new ways to spice up the look of our homes and work environments during the pandemic.

Nature Influencing The Indoors

Spending so much time indoors has shown us how important it is to bring elements of the outdoors inside. Popular and naturally occuring textures such as stone, onyx, marble, granite and light wood, grass greenery provide an outdoor feel to being indoors. The materials can be used in decoration and furniture.

The influence of nature and the outdoors on interior design will be the most important trend of 2022. Indoor and outdoor pieces that look as if they’d fit perfectly in either location will only continue to grow in popularity in the upcoming year. “Rattan, wicker, and grasscloth furniture will always remain classic,” says Roxy Te Owens, founder and creative director of Society Social, which is an online store and retail boutique in Charlotte, North Carolina. “We’ve been producing this type of furniture for nearly 40 years and have seen our designs off to homes in the city to the country, at the coast and have seen them placed in spaces that range from traditional to contemporary to midcentury modern.”

Influencing The Indoors

Refined Curves and Round Shapes

The trend isn’t just for furniture. “Pay attention to tables, lamps, poufs and sofas,” the website states. You can also find the trend in coffee tables, vases and candlesticks and large mirrors.

Retailers and users began to see a resurgence of curved and rounded shaped furniture towards the end of 2020. These give a new makeover feel to a home, living room or even a home office, giving a feel of drama and finesse.

According to Rebecca Breslin, Senior Design Manager at Wayfair Professional, these designs evolved from art deco shapes and patterns. Rounded furnishings and other elements offer a sense of clarity, precision, and freshness to a space. This trend feels almost Parisian, where art meets design, with clean lines, light neutrals, and soft features,” she says.

Basic Shades Of Color

Principal designer at Kobi Karp Architecture and Interior Design, Kobi Karp, said that matching furniture sets may soon be considered unfashionable. The trend therefore this year is “naturalness,” , because bright colors angered many people who were spending so much time at home.

Warm and cool shades of beige will continue to be popular, as will the entire palette of blues. In addition to this, he said, “Identical furniture and matching sets don’t showcase personal style,” he said. “I believe matching sets will soon be seen as a design flaw.” Therefore, instead of coordinating all your furniture or buying a complete set from a showroom, consider selecting non matching pieces with complementary colors or designs.

These colors should include basic shades of colors which complement each other; thus providing a beige look to the interior decoration of the room.

Malleable Kitchen Layouts

This trend is more about minimal decoration and furniture use, making room for air and free space. As more people begin to gravitate toward layouts that provide privacy and flexibility, the days of the must-have open kitchen are coming to a close. Still, the aesthetic of kitchens hasn’t shifted entirely. Instead of kitchen sceneries which would be cabinetry, kitchen designs will start looking more spacious and flexible. Thus giving a feel of properly open planning.

However, those who already have open kitchens will likely work with what they have, potentially moving walls or adding additional features to create privacy. Blundell believes that having some sense of visual separation, whether it is with French doors or a curtain can be a solution to this problem. Arched doorways are becoming another common option, especially for those who insist on preserving the integrity of the original floor plan.

Convenient Home-Office Spaces

The pandemic has shown, according to Interior Decor Trends, that working at the kitchen table or on the sofa can be inconvenient and potentially bad for your health. Even with vaccinations, COVID-19 variants have many people continuing to work from home.

The need for a comfortable home office becomes acute. If no renovation is planned soon, try rearranging the furniture to free a corner or space for a small desk and chair.

It’s important the space is well lighted, either by a window or a lamp. Virtual reality rooms were made possible by advancements in computer programming and hardware that have allowed designers to create a realistic 360-degree experience.
