Lightening up a room is most especially when the room is dark and without windows or a possible chance for natural light to brighten the room.

While there are many capital intensive remedies such as complete renovation, there are simple yet practical and effective ways to lighten the room.

Whenever you add indoor lighting to your bedroom, sitting room, restroom, or kitchen, these tips are the best shot you could take because they are hassle-free and cost-effective.

Add Light to a Room

1. Keep mirrors near light sources

Mirrors are known to reflect light. Placing your mirror close to a light source lightens the room and expands space. You can buy a light up mirror, place mirror near a window and see how much natural light it will reflect. buy a light up mirror

2. Always choose bright colored furniture

It’s a known fact that the color of your furniture affects how bright or dark your room will look. If you are looking to improve the lights in your kitchen or any other room, consider using bright colors for your kitchen furniture.  You can use any of these bright colors:

  • Ivory or any other bright color that you know to be bright.

These colors would create an illusion of extra space and lighten a room. However, if you are not sure how to go about this in your home, you can seek the help of a professional home remodeling contractor. They can turn your dark little space into a bright spacious one.

3. Go for an appropriate furniture size

Putting in mighty huge and tall furniture in a room like your kitchen will end in creating dark shadows that will leave the kitchen darker than it already is. The good thing is you can avoid this by purchasing furniture that is not above the window, which will fit in precisely low.

Also, allow some space between your furniture to enable all the natural light reflection that you can get into your room.

4. Make do with bulbs and other sources of illumination

Bulbs can add just enough luminosity to your room. Using various kinds can improve the beauty and charm of your space. You can try using one of these:

    • A collection of candles.
    • Ambient lights of other kinds.
    • Long strings of fairy lights.
    • Orb lights.
    • Pendant bulb.
    • Clamp lamps.
    • Florescent light bars.

5. Cover your floors with bright rugs

You can add light to your living space by using a light-colored carpet or floor, which will illuminate the room, making it glow. You can make do with the following colors for your floors or rugs.

  • White
  • Ivory

To achieve this effect, ensure you use a large-sized rug.

6. Embrace white walls and bright or gray-colored curtains

Painting your walls white is an inexpensive way of brightening a dark room, as this color also helps reflect light onto other surfaces in your home to make your space look and feel bigger than it is. You can add ornamental trims to your ceilings or paint parts of the room with exciting colors like red, yellow, or orange instead of using white alone.

Also, avoid using too many posters on the wall. To lighten your room, consider painting or getting bright colors for the following.

  • Interior design.

As for the curtains, you can go for any of the following:

    • Curtains of light drapes.
    • Blackout curtains that are light gray.
    • You can go for a beige-colored curtain too.

7. Aim your lights at the walls or ceiling

Consider aiming your lights at your wall and ceiling as opposed to random aiming or focusing it on a particular part of the floor. Also, avoid using a soft ambient light that gives little lighting.

You can achieve all these by:

  • Use of a floor lamp.
  • Wash your ceiling and walls with light, thereby infusing a warm glow to the nooks and crannies of your home.
  • Installing pot lights to your ceiling to help cast downlights on your walls.

Takeaway

Lighting your room does not have to be a stressful thing to do. It involves using the right size and color of furniture to use appropriate lighting sources rightly. Take time to clean your windows thoroughly as it allows for natural light into your room. Seek professional home remodeling services if you desire to remodel your kitchen or home in general.
