Total Gym has been producing quality, home, and commercial-style exercise equipment for several years, but the Total Gym GTS is perhaps the finest piece of commercial quality exercise equipment for home use.
When you purchase a Total Gym GTS system, you not only get an exercise system that allows you to perform 200 different exercises (a fantastic feat in itself) but you get several quality DVDs included to help you make full utilization of the equipment.
As expected for a piece of premium equipment, there is not just a little wall chart with a group of exercises printed on a poorly printed poster.
First, the Total Gym GTS comes with a quality glide board. The glide board can be set to 7 different levels, and there are 22 different levels of resistance.
The combination of different levels and resistance is a big part of what sets the Total Gym GTS apart. The entire family can use the GTS system from Total Gym and find an appropriate resistance level ideal for them. And changing levels and resistance levels is a snap.
All Total Gyms use smooth, pulley resistance and gravity to provide a non-jarring, steady form of exercise, and the Total Gym GTS is no different.
However, not only does the total Gym GTS allow you to do a lot more different exercises, but it comes with several attachments, notably:
- A lat bar
- A telescoping squat stand
- A 6-piece body strengthening kit
Which allow you to perform exercises such as dips, as well as add weights to your exercises, a significant improvement over other Total Gym models.
The total weight capacity of the Total Gym GTS is 650 pounds, and if you have a little or a lot of excess body weight, is built for a 6 foot 5, 350-pound man to handle.
The Total Gym GTS, being commercial grade, is built like a tank, and will be a piece of exercise equipment that you can use for many years.
There are two downsides to the Total Gym GTS however. One is that it is price-heavy. Buying a Total Gym GTS is a serious commitment for many.
The second thing that can be frustrating, is that the Total Gym GTS is the only total gym model that requires assembly.
Total Gym does provide free professional assembly for buying the Total Gym GTS, however, plan on waiting two or three weeks for a professional technician to arrive.
Although some people do attempt to do it themselves, we highly recommend either waiting for the install technician to arrive, or paying locally for an experienced handyman to do it. Plan on paying around $100 if you cannot wait.
Besides the tremendous amount of exercises available with the Total Gym GTS, there is however, one advantage to paying this much for a piece of exercise equipment. You are likely to use it religiously for exercise, rather than buying something like a treadmill which winds up as being a piece of room furniture to hang up clothes on.
The Total Gym system, in particular, the Total GYM GTS provides a total body workout in every sense of the word, and the pulley resistance is smooth and trouble-free.
Therefore, we give the Total GYM GTS a very high rating, although the price is not for everyone.
