Early Life

Ronald William Howar was bonr on March 1, 1954, in Duncan, Oklahoma, US. He is the first son of Jean Speegle Howard and Rance Howard. Ron’s family is also in the entertainment industry as his mother was an actress whiles his father was a writer, actor, and director. His father’s real family name is Beckenholdt but chose Howard as his stage name.

The Howard family moved to Hollywood in 1958 and in the following year, Ron’s younger brother, Clint Howard, was born.

Ron’s family was living in Desilu Studios, where The Andy Griffith Show was filmed. They briefly lived in Hollywood for about three years before moving again and this time, to Burbank.

Ron was already tutored while living in Desilu Studios. He continued his schooling at the Robert Louis Stevenson Elementary School.

He then went to the David Star Jordan Junior High and later transferred to John Burroughs High School, where he graduated. After graduating high shool, he got admission at the University of Southern California’s School of Cinematic Arts. However, he never got his degree.

Personal Life

Cheryl Alley and Ron Howard tied the knot in June 1975. Together, they have four kids – Twins Jocelyn and Paige, Reed Cross, and the well-known Hollywood actress, Bryce Dallas Howard.

Ron Howard Career

Ever since he landed the role of Opie Taylor, Ron Howard’s career continues to be a success. He debuted his career as an actor in 1959 by appearing in the movie, The Journey. After that, he landed roles in several television programs, such as The Cheyenne Show, Counter Gun, The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis, Dennis the Menace, The DuPont Show With June Allyson, and The Twilight Zone.

It was in 1960 when he started acting for The Andy Griffith Show. He was one of the main casts in the show’s eight seasons. Two years after, he starred in film, The Courtship of Eddie’s Father as well as in The Music Man.

In the following years, he appeared in several sitcoms, including The Bold Ones, I Spy, Daniel Boone, Land of the Giants, The Smith Family, and M*A*S*H. He also starred in the film, The Eleventh Hour.

E landed a role in the famous movie, American Grafitti in 1973. His exceptional performance in this film helped him get a lead role in the 1974 series, Happy Days.

Prior to leaving Happy Days, Ron Howard debuted his career as a director in the movie, Grand Theft Auto. Since then, he has directed many films, but his breakthrough as a director happened after he directed Night Shift, starred by Michael Keaton, Shelley Long, and Henry Winkler.

Howard was given an honor by the Museum of Moving Images in December 2005. He received anoter one in February 2006 from the American Cinema Editors. He also received the Big Apple Award from the Tisch School of Cinematic Arts and the Milestone Award from the Producers Guild of America in 2009.

In 2010, Ron Howard was granted the Humanitarian Award by the Simon Wiesenthal Center as well as the Gold Hugo-Career Achievement Award from te Chicago Film Festival. In 2013, he was included in the Television all of Fame.
