Designing a Modern Bathroom: Tips from the Pros

Even when a bathroom is the smallest room in a house, designing it can feel overwhelming. The challenge many people run into is the number of decisions they need to make, ranging from picking the best tiles, toilet, and tub to ensuring everything works well together design-wise. Check out these tips from the pros, which can help whether you are designing a new bathroom or remodeling an existing one.

Work with Proven Layouts

There are lots of bathroom layouts that could work with the space you have. Any changes to these layouts could mean significant cost increases. It is best to use existing designs and let the materials and fixtures give the bathroom its look and feel. If you are remodeling, you already have the space to work with, so again, the choice should be in materials and fixtures rather than changing the layout.

Use Fixtures as Focal Points

Vintage-style bathroom fixtures are becoming very popular, but you need to consider the design you are going for to ensure you choose ones that do not look out of place. Some of the materials used to make vintage bathroom fixtures can lead to issues with mold, mildew, and hard water that cause buildup in them, so choose fixtures made out of materials that will not cause these issues.

You can also go the other way by choosing fixtures that have a modern look. For example, you can choose ceramic, tempered glass, marble, and even river stone bathroom sinks for a modern aesthetic. You can pair these with interesting faucets, doorknobs, and handles to complete the design.

Add a Freestanding Bathtub

A bathtub is an excellent addition to any bathroom if you have the space. Freestanding bathtubs have a contemporary and artistic styling that makes them a strong focal point in bathrooms where nothing else stands out.

You can choose from rectangle or oval-shaped bathtubs and even find ones designed for corner placement. Key elements to consider include flat, slender edges and clean lines. Avoid bathtubs with intricate details and curves, pedestals, and clawfoot as these are design elements of a past era.

Add Functional Elements

The bathroom should not only be beautiful, but it should also be functional. You can make one functional by adding cabinetry that increases storage space, racks for hanging your robes and towels, hangers, and shelves. When considering which bathroom accessories to get, also consider how well they fit into your overall design and space.

Use the Right Fixtures

For most people, lighting is not a serious consideration when designing a bathroom. However, the right or wrong one can make a significant difference not only in how the bathroom looks and feels but also in how functional it is.

You can get some accent lights as they add depth, as well as ambient lighting for illumination, and task lighting for counters to improve the functionality of these spaces.

Although modern means different things to different people, there are some common elements you should consider when designing a modern bathroom, like a clearlight sauna canada. These include geometric shapes, tasteful lighting, modern fixtures, and clean lines. If you are conflicted about how something will look in your bathroom, you can use a visualization app to see how well it fits before adding it.
