Early Life
Darryl was born on 6th march 1963 in Portsmouth, later after 2 months his family shifted to Los Angeles. His dad was a maintenance worker in airlines while his mother was a homemaker. Darryl had three siblings.
In the teenage, Darryl got himself involved in an African American street gang named as The Bloods. He got expelled from his school because of his involvement in it. His cousin was also involved in another gang which was a rival of his gang. Eventually, he was murdered by the Blood gang. At that time Darryl decided to leave the gang.
After he turned his back on the gang life, he started working as a telemarketer in Los Angeles Times. Eventually he started performing as a standup comedian at local clubs. The style of his comedy was different and unique, that was actually reflecting his point of view.

When Darryl was working as a telemarketer, he met LaDonna. Both of them fall in love and started dating. On 22nd February 1986, the couple got married. They are blessed with three children, a boy and two girls namely, Ryan, Tyler, and Kyle.
His wife wanted him to start as a comedy artist, that’s why he Hughley started performing in the local clubs as a standup comedian. Eventually he started growing in his career as his style was different from others.
In 2017, November, Hughley gave an interview, in which he discussed about having an affair early in his marriage. Even he conceived a child with her. Unfortunately, when the baby was nine months old, he was shaken to death by his mother’s boyfriend.
LaDonna secretly helped his ex-lover financially, without letting his husband know about it for years. She was deeply affected by the tragedy.

Hughley started his career as a telemarketer at the Los Angeles Times. Soon after that, he started working as a standup comedian at local clubs. His career started to elevate to better heights from there. Today he is a successful actor, radio host, author, stand-up comedian, a political commentator, radio host, and author.
In the year 1992, he got a chance to host a show of a BET standup comedy show, “Comic View”, in 1992.
The show was a great success and he started gaining popularity from there. Later in 1998, he got his own show,” The Hughleys” which he starred in, wrote and produced. The show ran till the year 2002 with 89 episodes over four seasons.
In 2005, he released a comedy album and hosted a talk show for Comedy Central named as “weekends at the D.L.” Darryl appeared in the movie “Scary Movie 3M” and in the episodes of, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air and Hawaii Five-O. Later in June 2010 he acted as a guest moderator of ABC’s “The View” and guest-hosted “Who Wants to be a Millionaire?”
D.L Hughley started a radio show in 2009, named as The D.L Hughley Morning Show on station WRKS in New York City. Due to some reasons his show got cancelled later on. Later in 2012 he started writing books. Till now his 4 books are published.
