5 Warning Signs You Might Need New Concrete Floor Coating

The concrete floor coating of your basement or garage should last forever, right? We love concrete floors for their dependability, but the truth is, they require occasional maintenance.

Concrete makes an ideal surface for parking our cars, bikes, and for dad’s workbench, but if you don’t care for it properly, you can end up with serious damage to your home.

To learn more, keep reading to find five key warning signs that it’s time to replace your concrete floor covering.

1. Your Concrete Floor Coating Has Started to Crumble

Sometimes, concrete garage floor coating can start to crumble or flake over time. This is never a good sign, as it means the flooring is starting to fall apart and wear away.

It’s not safe to walk on concrete that’s no longer firm and secure, so be sure to update your flooring if you experience any signs of crumbling.

2. Discoloration

Can concrete floors change color? Unfortunately, they can if they’ve been victim to water damage. If your flooring has patches that have changed darker in color, this can indicate a problem.

Look for a reputable local company, like Garage Force, and book in for your flooring to be repaired.

3. Cracking

Often, the first sign of a problem is cracking. Even small, hairline cracks mean that you have troubles with your foundation underneath.

Cracks also create an opportunity for dirt, debris, and water to get into your flooring, putting it at further risk. Inspect your concrete flooring every so often, making sure no cracks have started to develop.

4. Water Damage

Concrete flooring is often found in basements and garages—areas of the home with a high risk of flooding. If too much moisture from flooding or heavy rains gets into your flooring, it can weaken it and cause damage.

Water also brings mold and mildew, which can be a health risk. Always bring in professional cleaners to properly dry your flooring after any water exposure and prevent long-term damage.

5. The Flooring Has Become Uneven

Your flooring might become uneven over time. It’s possible that you’ll notice dips or raised areas of the flooring.

These not only pose a tripping hazard, especially to the elderly, but they also indicate that your foundation is shifting. This is a serious issue as it means the structural integrity of the building is at risk.

Update Your Concrete Floor Coatings Today

Metallic epoxy floor is a decorative protective coating that seals your concrete. These coatings are made from a synthetic polymer that creates a strong, plastic-like material layered over your existing flooring. Metallic epoxy is a form of solid epoxy with metallic, glitter-like particles mixed into the coating. Metallic epoxy floors can last 20 years or more with proper care and maintenance when professionally installed.

Have you experienced any of the warning signs above? If your concrete floor coating is no longer looking its best, then it might be time to replace and reseal.

A local flooring company can get the job done for you in no time at all, so do some research and find someone reliable and affordable to fix any damage to your flooring. That way, your beautiful garage, basement, or industrial area will last for years to come.
