I just want to fall asleep! If you’ve said that at 2 AM in the morning, you like millions of other Americans who can’t sleep. In fact, 50 to 60% of adults live and suffer from chronic insomnia.

It’s time to get your Zzzzs by finding out what vitamins help you sleep.

The body appreciates at least 7 to 8 hours of sleep. Getting at least that much each night protects your health. Adults have a lower risk of succumbing to diseases like diabetes and heart disease.

A few added pluses are a slimmer waistline and reduced stress. Good sleep helps you maintain a healthy weight and improves your mood.

Are you having trouble falling asleep and you’re unsure why? Try these five vitamins to help you better sleep and catch up on some z’s tonight!

Help You Sleep Better

What Vitamins Help You Sleep? Start With Vitamin D!

The sunshine vitamin, Vitamin D, has quality benefits that boost health. Its most valuable benefit is its ability to help you fall asleep. How? Vitamin D is a natural hormone that’s formed in the body.

It develops in the body with the help of sunlight. People who don’t get enough sunlight have trouble sleeping better.

That’s when it’s okay to take a vitamin D supplement. This helps raise the natural levels in the body, promoting proper sleep when the body’s tired.

Vitamin C

Seeing vitamin C on this list might give you a pause, seeing people associate it with colds and immunity. Vitamin C does more than boost immunity. It plays an important role in keeping you asleep at night.

People with inadequate levels of vitamin C in their bodies have trouble remaining asleep. They wake up multiple times throughout the night and stay up for hours at a time.

Raise the level of vitamin C in your blood and sleep like a baby.

Iron

When the body is less oxygenated, you feel fatigued, which makes it hard to rest. That’s partly due to low iron levels. Iron-deficiency in the body affects sleep.

It can also cause insomnia.

Women suffer more from iron-deficiency and tend to sleep less when their iron’s low. Pack your diet with iron-rich foods and increase your iron level by taking a supplement.

Vitamin E

If you snore and stop abruptly off and on while you sleep, you may have sleep apnea. Sleep apnea affects the quality of your sleep and leaves you feeling tired after you wake up.

Vitamin E has antioxidant powers that combat memory loss and sleep-deprivation. It improves how you sleep, which affects how you age.

Take a Sleep Vitamin

Most sleep vitamins on the market have a combination of several vitamins—D, C, B-6, and more. If you don’t know where you’re lacking, start by taking a reliable sleep vitamin.

These delicious sleep vitamins also have magnesium and melatonin—a hormone that regulates sleep. Try these for a few weeks, but always check with your primary care physician first.

Get Some Rest

Finding out what vitamins help you sleep puts you on the track to a healthier life. When you rest well, you live well.
