YouTube Monetization Requirements 2022

Have you ever wondered how to make money on YouTube? Actually, there are different ways to achieve this goal. Let’s find out what the platform itself provides.

Basics of YouTube Monetization

It is not difficult to understand how the earning process works. Technically, it looks like this:

  1. The author publishes the video.
  2. The video is watched by subscribers and casual viewers.
  3. YouTube embeds video ads.
  4. The advertiser pays the platform for placing advertising materials.
  5. YouTube shares part of the profit with the author as it uses the content to promote the goods and services of advertisers.

As you can see, the principle of operation is quite simple. The higher the viewing of the video, the more the income of its author. However, no one knows how much advertisers pay for advertising and what percentage ultimately goes to creators.

Requirements for Joining

Do you want to start earning this way? Then, the first thing you have to do is join the YouTube affiliate program. Since its members can earn income from videos, the platform imposes stricter requirements on them than on other users. Therefore, after submitting an application for participation, the system will check whether your channel meets all the conditions of the program. After you become a partner, such checks will be carried out regularly.

There are three main requirements for connection:

  1. The channel must comply with the rules. The list of rules is shown when registering on the platform, and they can also be found in the menu, section ‘Rules and Security.’ It is important that the author does not have strikes and warnings.
  2. The channel must have at least 4,000 hours of views in the last 12 months. You do not need to wait a year; the main thing is that you need the number of hours.
  3. The channel must have at least 1,000 subscribers.

In addition, the author must reside in a country or region where the program is available. You also need to link the channel to the AdSense account.

How to Connect?

The connection process will take no more than five minutes. Just follow the step-by-step instructions:

  1. Go to YouTube Creator Studio.
  2. Select the Monetization section.
  3. If you are connected to Google AdSense and linked to a channel, you can skip to the next step right away. If not, follow these steps.
  4. Choose the ad formats that viewers will see.
  5. Next, wait for the channel to be checked by the moderators of the video hosting.
  6. After successfully passing the verification, ads will appear in your videos.

Keep in mind that moderators may disable channel monetization due to non-compliance with the community rules. Most often, this happens for the following reasons:

  • copyright infringement
  • video with illegal actions
  • materials of a sexual nature
  • discriminatory speech
  • manifestation of hatred or cruelty
  • use of nudity in content

YouTubers receive their earnings cheque after the 25th of each month. This only happens if the income exceeded $100.
