Instead of considering intelligence as a gift from God or a result of genes, you should make your kid believe that intelligence is just an outcome of hard work and study, and this is what is known as a growth mindset.

With such a belief, students can thrive and feel motivated to learn new things. Every kid out there should believe that they can make their mind stronger. Otherwise, they will have no motivation to work harder. But are there any set rules to help kids build a growth mindset? Let’s find out through this blog post.

The Role of a Parent in Developing a Growth Mindset in their Child

Build a Growth Mindset

Help them set SMART goals.

The word SMART stands for Specific, Measurable, Achievable, and Realistic. So, while setting any goal for your child, you need to keep all these four points in mind, and if the goal doesn’t match even one of these aspects, they can be sure that you have set a wrong goal.

Wrong goal setting doesn’t only wastes time and effort, but it can make your child feel demotivated, and they will never believe in the concept of becoming intelligent through hard work.

Identify limiting beliefs and clear all negative blocks.

Sit down with your kid and ask them about the difficulties they are facing in their education and try to find whether there is something wrong with the way they are learning or it is just because of some false beliefs limiting your child’s ability.

If there are limiting beliefs, you should start removing these negative blocks instead of changing the learning process and making the child believe that hard work and a proper mindset can change everything.

Build a constructive feedback loop

Parents shouldn’t just follow a strict routine or keep using tips from the internet to build a growth mindset while expecting their approach to work like a magic wand. To be successful, and growth mindset development approach needs to be backed up by a construction feedback loop.

This feedback loop helps parents know what is working and what is going in vain. Thus, parents can better streamline their approach and use only those methods that prove helpful in the real-life, not only in the papers.

Change their perception towards mistakes and failure.

Parents also need to change the perception of their child regarding mistakes and failure and make them believe that these are not only a part of life but can be used as an opportunity to learn something. You can also share your own mistakes and let your kids know what you learned from those mistakes.

This way, kids will be longer afraid of making mistakes, and the chances of feeling demotivated after a failure will also decrease. You can even help your kids find out the lessons they can learn from their mistakes to be motivated to work harder instead of quitting.

Explore growth mindset activities

Many growth mindset activities can be used by parents and allow their children to believe in the concept of hard work and study. For example, you can help your child write or draw positive affirmations about themselves or encourage them to read motivational books.

In addition to this, you can encourage your child to place the positive reminders at a place where they can see them every morning. These simple growth mindset activities help a lot.

Without a growth mindset, your child can start believing that they are not intelligent, which can have a big effect on the child’s future. So, just use the tips mentioned above and develop a growth mindset in your child. You can take the help of expert Landon Schertz to inculcate a growth mindset in your child.
