Usha Sobhraj is the daughter of French serial killer Charles Sobhraj and his first wife, Chantal Compagnon. She was born in 1970 in Mumbai, India, to her notorious parents, who were often on the run. Usha is not the only child; she has two siblings, Muriel and Pranck Anouk. Usha Sobhraj had a tough time growing up due to her parents’ criminal activities.
Early Life and Her Kidnapping
Despite being born in Mumbai, India, Usha Sobhraj did not grow up there since her family was always on the run. At the age of two, her parents had committed a crime for which they were on the radar of Indian police. Following this, Usha’s parents ran away to Afghanistan with her, but then they were intercepted at the Afghanistan-Iran border and subsequently arrested.
Following the arrest, Usha was taken in by her maternal grandparents and lived there for some time while her parents were serving their jail terms. After some time, Usha’s father went to France, where he drugged the maternal grandparents of Usha and then abducted her. Charles took the then small girl all the way to Iran as he did not want to be separated from his daughter.
Fortunately, Usha’s father was arrested while in Iran by the Iran police force, who returned Usha Sobhraj to her maternal grandparents. It was really tough for Usha, given that she was young and she was moving from one country to another unwillingly. When her mother completed her jail term, she fought for her daughter’s custody, and they moved to the United States. While in prison, Usha’s mother met a man named Leon Harris who went to see a friend; the two struck a friendship, and as soon as she was released, they started seeing each other.
With Leon’s help, Usha’s mother was able to fight for the custody of her child, and then they moved to Connecticut in the United States.
Cutting Ties with Her Parents
After relocating to the United States, Usha was close to her mother and adoptive father, Leon. But she later learned that her biological father was Charles Sobhraj, and she initially expressed an intention to meet him. But after learning of his father’s acts, Usha had to cut ties with him. While in the US, Usha’s mother continued communicating with Charles Sobhraj, and this angered Usha. As such, she stopped associating herself with both of her biological parents. Luckily enough, her adoptive father was always supportive, and he helped her in her various endeavors.

Usha Sobhraj has studied in the United States, given that she moved there when she was little. After high school, she joined Boston University for her undergraduate studies; she graduated in 1993 with a bachelor’s degree in communication. Usha also did psychology while in college. After college, Usha’s mother started working in various capacities, and she is currently a senior manager at Lafayette Group. Besides, she has expertise in counter-terrorism and homeland security.
In her personal life, Usha Sobhraj is married to Jason Sutliff, who works in the fire department in California. She has a daughter, but she rarely reveals details of her personal life, and it is hard to tell if Usha has any other kids.
