Supernatural shows have always attracted a wider viewership with their well-written script and portrayal of characters. Sleepy Hollow is one such example. This supernatural drama TV series started airing in 2013 from 16th September to 31st March 2017 on Fox. Like most of the shows which are inspired by any of the novels or books or some other, Sleepy Hollow is based on Washington Irving’s 1820 short story ‘The Legend of Sleepy Hollow’. Irving also came up with some add-on concepts from Rip Van Winkle.

The setup of seasons 1, 2, and 3 is done in an imaginary version of Sleepy Hollow in New York. It showcases the town much larger than its originality. For the last two remaining seasons (4 and 5), the series switched to Washington, D.C. Nine years ago, in October, the renewal of season 2 of Sleepy Hollow came with thirteen episodes. But in 2014 May, the number of episodes exceeded 18.

In the following year 2015 in March, Mark Goffman, who had been the showrunner of Sleepy Hollow quitted the show after the end of season 2. In the same year, the renewal of Sleepy Hollow’s third season with 18 episodes was done by Fox with Clifton Campbell as the new showrunner.

In the next year 2016 in May, Fox came up with another show renewal for season 4. The premier came in 2017 on 6th January. This time Albert Kim, who earlier worked as executive producer, became the co-showrunner for season 4. But the supernatural series was discontinued in 2017 on 9th May. So is it an indication that the series is officially canceled? Let us find out in this article.

Story plot

The main leading character of Sleepy Hollow is Ichabod Crane. He is a Yankee school teacher who resides in a Dutch enclave Sleepy Hollow, near to Hudson River. Ichabod is a person who is open to suggestions. He does believe in the eerie tales and stories of ghosts and witchcraft that he has been familiar with from hearings and reading about them.

Among the gothic stories, his particular favorite is the tale of a spooky headless horseman who created fear in the area. Other than teaching in school, Ichabod is also a money-oriented person, which is why he marries the daughter of a rich farmer named Katrina Van Tassel. She would get much after inheritance.

There is one rival who is jealous of Ichabod Crane. He is Abraham Van Brunt, famously called Brom Bones. He is many favorites among locals and is also a reckless horseman who keeps applying tricks on the school teacher Ichabod. One late night, when the latter was on his way home after attending a party held in the home of Katrina, he gets scared seeing a ghostly headless horseman. To scare him more, the ghostly figure throws a round-shaped object letting him think of his head, which in reality was a pumpkin. Since that day, there was no sight of the schoolmaster.

It all begins when in 1781, Ichabod Crane was employed as a double agent for George Washington. At that time, he chops off the head of a Horseman, but to his surprise, he remains alive. In a state of despair, Ichabod gets the victory with an extreme blow. When he awakes in Sleepy Hollow, he is guided with a bible of Washington. When the series of events takes place, he discovers the real truth about his wife Katrina, who happens to be a witch. She was expelled for saving him.

Discovering unknown truth

Ichabod’s blunder makes his life connected with the Horseman. While combating the demonic forces of Moloch, Ichabod finds out his son Jeremy Crane is the Horseman of the war. But he expresses disgust towards him and his wife Katrina for leaving him. Later on, he discovers another truth, which is that his ex-friend Abraham Von Brunt is the ‘Headless’.

Ichabod with the help of Abbie (Sheriff’s Lieutenant, FBI Agent, and Biblical witness) gets success in bringing down Moloch and his demon army. But that too in the return of releasing all imprisoned in purgatory. These include demons who would take over after Moloch. Henry the Horseman of War takes his mother Katrina to his side and arouses the lineage of their coven, but Ichabod puts an end to their lives after which he feels regretful.

It is very sad to inform you that there is less chance of streaming of Sleepy Hollow season 5.

According to a reviewing website, the show had a good opening at the beginning of its previous seasons. But with the progress of new seasons, its content of writing and its presentation started waning causing poor ratings and backlash from the viewers. So drop the hope of the fifth installment of Sleepy Hollow, as it is officially canceled.
