Pacific Rim was the start of something incredible. And with the second movie, it has managed to establish itself as a franchise. The brilliant work of Guillermo del Toro has been well appreciated globally. Pacific Rim is a science fiction movie. It has everything that you want in a sci-fi movie.

The film is full of action and adventure. The first installment of the Pacific Rim franchise was released in the year 2013. Following its massive success, the second movie- Pacific Rim 2 was released in 2018. Both films were a huge success. They were loved by the audience and earned almost twice the investment.

Pacific Rim Storyline:

Pacific Rim is about interdimensional battles on an unimaginable scale. The movie is set in the future, where Earth is at war with Kaiju, the sea monsters. Kaiju have emerged from the bottom of the Pacific Ocean through an interdimensional sea portal. With a hope to win, all of humanity has united and given rise to Jaegers. These are giant robotic structures controlled by humans. Two co-pilots are needed to control a Jaeger. These pilots are mentally linked to managing the actions of a Jaeger.

Kaiju are ruthless creatures, which destroy numerous cities at the beginning of the movie. After years of destruction, in 2020, the war against Kaijus is still ragging. Yancy and Raleigh are brothers operating a Jaeger named ‘Gipsy Danger’. During combat, a Kaiju named ‘Kniefhead’ severely damages Gipsy Danger. This incident causes the death of Yancy. And Raleigh, with his damaged Jaeger, manages to defeat Kniefhead and escape the scene.

Heartbroken with his brother’s death, Raleigh leaves the Jaeger program and joins the coastal wall-building program intended to keep the Kaiju out. The story progresses, and Raleigh finds himself in a restored Gipsy Danger with his co-pilot Mako Mori. They must find a way to defeat the Kaijus and restore peace.

With the help of Dr. Newt Geiszler, it is discovered that Kaijus are genetically engineered beings that are controlled by extra-terrestrial organisms. They intend to gain full control over Earth and wipe out humanity. But since Kaijus are mentally connected, like the hive mind of Daleks, they know that Dr. Newt has been snooping around. This further complicates things. So what will Raleigh and Mori do? They are humanity’s last hope.

Pacific Rim 2 follows the aftermath of the ‘Battle of the Breach’. Kaijus are sent back through the interdimensional portal they came from. But Earth is not in good shape. The Jaeger program faces serious competition from a rival company that intends to establish itself and overthrow Jaegers.

Pacific Rim 3 Cast:

There is suspicion regarding the return of some characters from Pacific Rim 2. However, no announcements have been made so far.

• John Boyega as Jake Pentecost: John Boyega plays the son of Stacker Pentecost. He is the adoptive brother of Mako Mori who died tragically in Pacific Rim 2. John Boyega was born in 1992. He is a British- Nigerian actor and producer who is known for his work- Attack the Block, Star War sequels, and 24: Live Another Day. He was appreciated for his comedy sci-fi movie ‘Attack the Block’ which came out in 2011. He played the character ‘Finn’ in the Star Wars trilogy- ‘The Force Awakens’, ‘The Last Jedi’, and ‘The Rise of Skywalker’. John Boyega is someone who is not afraid to explore. He has worked on many movies covering different genres.
• Rinko Kikuchi as Mako Mori: Rinko Kikuchi was a part of the Pacific Rim as well. Her character Mako Mori was paired with Raleigh to control Jaeger- Gipsy Danger. Mako is the adopted daughter of Stacker Pentecost and sister of Jake Pentecost. ‘Norwegian Wood’ is one of her finest works. In the year 2006, she was awarded the Academy Award for her incredible performance in ‘Babel’.

Although Mako Mori died in Pacific Rim 2, it is expected that the creators would explore her story more. Rinko Kikuchi might be invited back to play the role of Mako Mori in Pacific Rim 3.

• Charlie Day as Dr. Newton ‘Newt’ Geiszler: Charlie Day has played Dr. Newton Geiszler in Pacific Rim and Pacific Rim 2. In the second installment of the Pacific Rim franchise, he is represented as a brainwashed scientist who is now in support of the Precursors. Charlie Day was born in 1976 and is best known for the comic character he plays in ‘It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’. He has delivered many iconic movie performances like Dale in ‘Horrible Bosses’ and ‘Horrible Bosses 2’. He was also a part of ‘Monsters University’, ‘The Lego Movie’ and ‘Fist Fight’.
• Burn Gorman as Hermann Gottlieb: Burn Gorman plays the role of Hermann who works at PPDC with Mako. Burn Gorman is a British born actor and musician. He has delivered brilliant performances on television including ‘Torchwood’ and ‘The Game of Thrones’. He was also a part of Pacific Rim and Pacific Rim 2.

Rumors about Pacific Rim 3:

The ending of Pacific Rim 2 was terrific. It has given rise to numerous rumors. At the end of the second movie, Jake declares that humans will take the fight to the Precursors. So it is likely that this storyline will be pursued. Fans are excited about the Pacific Rim 3 since it would be a whole new setting in an alien world. One can expect the same level of action but in a new world and age.

Pacific Rim 3 News:

There has been no official announcement regarding Pacific Rim 3. The first two movies- Pacific Rim and Pacific Rim 2 were released at an interval of 5 years. Keeping that in mind, one should expect a similar time gap between the second and the third movie. The last movie came out in 2018, so the Pacific Rim 3 would likely come out in 2022 or 2023.

Final Thoughts:

People are genuinely waiting for Pacific Rim 3. But most likely, this movie will not be released anytime soon. You might have to wait a lot. Besides the producers are concerned about Pacific Rim 3 since Pacific Rim 2 did not perform as good as the first movie.
