Looking to Grow Healthier Hair? Here’s What You Need To Know

Hair vitamins can be a great way to encourage hair growth and vitality in the long term. The key is to stick with them, though, as taking them for a month and discontinuing their use won’t do you any favors towards getting that long and strong mane, you’re after. The results from hair vitamins also vary between people, where some people may take longer than others to see significant results.

The best vitamins to look for in your hair vitamins will have vitamin E, vitamin D, and omega-3 fatty acids. Biotin also plays an important role in hair growth. If necessary, play around with some vitamin formulations as different amounts and types of vitamins included will likely have some formulations complementing your body better than others.

Hair growth cycles

Other factors also play a part in this as well, where the frequency of your hair growth cycles should be taken into consideration. If you need more assistance identifying your hair growth cycles, a great hair care blog or long-term relationship with a trusted hairdresser may help you to identify each stage.  On average, their hair growth cycle can range from a few weeks to several years, where the phases include:

– Anagen, the growth phase
– Catagen, a transition phase
– Telogen, a resting phase

Individual factors affecting hair growth

Just like everyone’s body is different, factors such as genetics, overall health, diet, and lifestyle can all influence how quickly you’ll see results. Any hair issues being experienced will also play a role, where if your hair is damaged or you’re experiencing significant hair loss related to underlying health conditions, then results might come a bit slower than for others.

Eating a healthy diet daily will also help your hair go a long way (pun intended). It’s worth thinking about the components that your meals offer, where you’ll want a good mix of proteins, minerals, and vitamins. Lots of organic fruits and grass-fed red meat will give your hair a significant boost. Hydration also has a lot to do with the healthiness of your hair, where you should drink plenty of water to allow your hair to stay hydrated.

While this topic has been contested, regular trims are key to keeping your hair growing long and strong, as this will prevent lit ends and breaking, promoting your hair health overall. Also, make sure that you’re gentle when you brush your hair. Wet hair especially can break easily, so use a wide-tooth comb and start detangling from the tips of your hair and work your way up.

Styling techniques and massage

Heat damage is another, well, hot topic in the world of hair care. Use heat-styling tools minimally and when you do, a heat protectant spray will help to keep your hair glow even through high heat is being used. Using the right shampoo and conditioner will also help to keep your hair healthy according to its needs. We recommend a sulfate-free line which will help to prevent excessive drying.

Styling your hair into braids and buns can be a great way to prevent excessive friction and breakage in your hair. This being said, tight hairstyles are a no-no as they will cause stress and tension on the hair shaft, leading to breakage. Scalp massages are another must for healthy hair as they promote blood flow, meaning hair growth is encouraged. You don’t need anything fancy to perform a scalp massage, just use your fingertips to gently massage your scalp for a few minutes.

Alternative haircare methods

Have you ever used a beer rinse before? While it might smell funny if you don’t wash it out thoroughly, the proteins in beer can help to strengthen and add shine to the hair. Apple cider vinegar has a similar effect, where using diluted ACV can help to balance the pH of your hair and remove product buildup.

Green tea is another favourite, and you can use this tea to rinse your hair (when cooled) to add shine and stimulate hair growth. Then there are home remedies like hair masks made with yoghurt, banana avocado, honey, or egg. These ingredients are all nourishing and moisturizing for your hair.
