How To Protect Your Business From Thieves And Burglars

It is terrible working so hard to secure a business and then lose your products to thieves. That can set you back thousands, and no one wants that.

Burglaries and theft can happen to anyone and anytime. While there is no guarantee to avoid it, you can have a secure way of deterring burglars and shoplifters from your store, foiling their attempt at breaking in or stealing.

If you own a store, here is how you can protect your business from burglaries and theft.

Install security cameras and surveillance

Installing surveillance cameras around your retail store will help keep thieves away. The cameras can help you identify any suspicious activity around the store, like when a customer tries to leave without paying for a product.

You can also see someone trying to hide something in their pockets or bag. Having surveillance cameras with video analytics or software will instantly alert your security of any suspicious activity in the store.

If you also get surveillance cameras with facial recognition software, you can always beware of known thieves visiting your store. This is done by matching their faces to police databases, which have records of known criminals.

Camera surveillance will also protect your store from burglaries. The system will alert you of any attempted break-ins. Pair that with an alarm system that can alert the police immediately they spot burglars or suspicious activity around the store. It can help prevent any successful break-ins.

Security doors

Ensure that you install security doors that are burglar-proof on all entries. Most businesses only have security doors at the main entrance of their store, which is wrong. Burglars will always use the rear entrance or side door, especially if the locks are not secure. It makes it easy for them to break into your store.

Ensure that you get all your doors secure with on site security doors to lessen the chances of a break-in.

Use EAS (Electronic Article Surveillance)

EAS systems are tags you can attach to all your products at the store, which prevents thieves from walking away with anything without paying. The cashier deactivates the EAS upon purchasing the product, ensuring your items are secure at the store.

You can use different types of EAS, labels, tags, spider tags antennas, etc. EAS works by using a combination of electromagnetic technology, radiofrequency, metal detectors, and sensors to deter shoplifters from attempting to steal stuff from your store without paying.

You put the sensors at the entrance and exit of your store that will set off an alarm if anyone attempts to walk past them without deactivating the tags, which means they haven’t paid for the product.

Futuristic EAS systems may also help show you data from when the product reached your store to when it left. Some will also help establish the product’s location, which can be helpful, especially for high-value products.

Ensure you invest in the security of your retail store to prevent losses that may affect your bottom line. Having safety protocols like surveillance cameras, security doors, and EAS systems may also help you get insurance compensation in case of theft or burglary.
