About Gravity Falls
Gravity Falls is an American animated series that has a mix of comedy and mystery made by Alex Hirsch for Disney XD and Disney Channel. It was aired from June 15, 2012, until February 15, 2016.
The animated series circles around the adventures of twins Mabel and Dipper Pines who spent their summer vacation with their great uncle, Stan, whom they call as Grunkle. Great Uncle Stan lives in Gravity Falls, Oregon, an enigmatic town that is filled with supernatural creatures and paranormal forces. The children helped Stan run The Mystery Shack.
In 2015, Alex Hirsch revealed that Gravity Falls will end after its season 2. According to him, he decided to end the show with concrete closures for the characters. However, he also said that he is open to continuing the show with more episodes. Gravity Falls ended with a finale that lasted for an hour with the title “Weirdmageddon 3: Take Back the Falls.” It aired last February 15, 2016.
It is important to note though that te show was never cancelled. However, irsch also stated that it will most likely not be renewed for another season.
Two years after during the finale anniversary, Hirsch hinted that there is a continuation of Gravity Falls. It is a graphic novel titled Gravity Falls: Lost Legends. It was later released on July 14, 2018. Last August 8, 2020, Wax Museum, a show inspired by an episode of Gravity Falls titled Amphibia, was aired on Disney Channel.
Gravity Falls Plot: A Quick Overview
For their next summer vacation, 12-year-old twins, Mable and Dipper, were sent to Gravity Falls to spend time with their great uncle, Stan. They are originally from Piedmont, California. Gravity Falls is a fictitious town situated in Oregon that is full of supernatural phenomenon and surrounded by strange creatures.
Great Uncle Stan runs the Mystery Shack, a tourist trap that investigates the town. Dipper finds a mysterious journal, which will help them in investigating and solving mysteries in Gravity Falls. Along with other characters, including Soos and Wendy, Mabel and Dipper solve mysterious activities in the town and are always in a new adventure in every episode.
Gravity Falls is one of the most loved series in Disney. It has a mix of mystery, comedy, and its content is fresh compared to most animated shows. What’s more, it’s not only for children who love mysteries and adventure but also for adults who will always remain young at heart.
Gravity Falls Characters: Who Are They?
There are multiple characters in Gravity Falls but we will focus on the main ones, whom the story mainly revolves in. These include:
Dipper Pines
Dipper Pines is a 12-uear-old boy and is the twin brother of Mabel Pines. He is voiced by Jason Ritter, famously known for Parenthood. He carries a journal that he named “3” all the time after he found it in the forest. As it turns out, the journal is very helpful in unraveling mysteries in Gravity Falls.
Dipper is a very active child and has great imagination. He becomes restless when there are no mysteries for them to solve. Although he has an edgy personality, he is quite soft when it comes to Wendy. Dipper is also great in spotting te smallest details, making him essential in almost all of their adventures.
Mabel Pines
Mabel Pines is the twin sister of Dipper. She is voiced by Kristen Schaal in all of the show’s episodes except for BoJack Horseman, where she was voiced by Sarah Lynn. She has a positive and cheerfull personality. She is also very talented, especially when it comes to knitting sweaters. She loves to read novels and has an obsession of vampires, particularly when it is about romance.
Grunkle Stan
Grunkle Stan is the great uncle of Mabel and Dipper. He is voiced by the creator himself, Alex Hirsch. He owns The Mystery Shack, known as the “world’s most bizarre museum.” He has an extreme love for money that sometimes he resorts to illegal ways just to get it. However, despite, his weaknesses, he loves the twins more than anything in the world.
Gravity Falls Season 3: Will It Ever Happen?
Last August 1, 2014, Gravity Falls Season 2 premiered. It has 20 episodes with the finale airing last February 15, 2016. For those wondering if there is a season 3 for Gravity Falls, Alex Hirsch, the creator of the show, already announced back in 2015 that season 2 will be the last season for Gravity Falls.
He did say that he was open to adding more episodes or specials to the show. This may have been an indication that they still have more to offer for Gravity Falls fans. On July 24, 2018, he released a graphic novel, Gravity Falls: The Lost Legends. Not only that but Disney Channel recently released Wax Museum, a show that was inspired by an episode of the show.
