The disrupted routines in the pandemic have made our lazy bodies vulnerable to multiple diseases. The effect of the especially intensified when it comes to our eyes as we are spending far more hours on the screen than the limit.

While blue light glasses are an excellent shield against blue light emitted by the screens, eating healthy foods is equally important to combat these diseases.

Best foods for eye health

Foods rich in nutrients for eye health

  • Carrots

When our grannies made us eat loads of carrots because “rabbits never wear eyeglasses”, you know why- carrots are extremely rich in beta-carotene and Vitamin A. Both of these elements prove to be very helpful in taking good care of the eyes.

  • Oranges

Vitamin C is the key to eye health. It helps to repair and maintain healthy blood vessels in the eyes and fight against severe eye diseases like cataract and Age-Related Macular Degeneration. Oranges, along with other citrus fruits, contain abundant amounts of Vitamin C.

  • Blueberries

Studies reveal that feeding on a bowlful of blueberries each day can keep your eyes healthy and prevent several optical defects. Eating good food and wearing blue light blocking glasses this is all that you need to do to keep your vision healthy forever.

  • Bell peppers

Bell peppers contain all those good nutrients and antioxidants for healthy eyes- beta-carotene, vitamin C, along with other carotenoids lutein and zeaxanthin. As mentioned above, Vitamin C is crucial for maintaining healthy eyes. Bell peppers can give you the most amount of Vitamin C per calorie. So, don’t pick those bell cubes out the next time you treat yourself with a pizza.

  • Nuts

Our body, including the eyes, contain some “free radical” cells that sometimes damage our own cells. It is the antibodies that combat with these unstable molecules to protect tissue damage. Nuts like cashews, almonds, pistachios and peanuts are rich in Vitamin E and Omega-3, both of which are essential to boost eye health.

  • Green leafy vegetables

Lutein and Zeaxanthin are two antioxidants that absorb blue light entering the eye and prevent retinal damage. They also help the eye to detect contrasts easily and quickly adjust to them. Green leafy vegetables like spinach, kale, collard green, etc. are packed with good nutrients and antioxidants like lutein and zeaxanthin.

Healthy habits for eye care

  • Limit screen time

Extended screen hours expose you to high intensity blue rays that are not just discomforting,  but damaging for the eyes. You can try to limit your screen time by skipping a few movie nights and choosing paperbacks over kindle. Also, make a habit of looking away from the screen after every 20 minutes to prevent strain.

  • Wear blue light glasses

Blue light glasses can filter a major portion of blue rays falling on your glasses. This is a latest revolution in the eyewear industry that can save you from too many diseases caused by high-energy blue rays. You can buy glasses online if you prefer not to step out of your house until the pandemic is over.

  • Maintain hygiene

It is important to keep your eyes clean as tiny dust particles can get stuck inside the eyelids and cause serious rashes and pain. Make a habit of washing your eyes with cold water twice a day. You can also slide a drop of honey on your lower waterline before sleeping. This will not only soothe the eyes, but every dirt particle can stick to the honey and you can wash it off in the morning.

  • Use good

It is always better to use the best quality of products when it comes to your skin, hair and eyes. You should never sleep with your make-up on. Residual make-up particles provide breeding grounds for bacteria and other germs.

  • Use artificial tears

Artificial tear drops are used to lubricate your eyes evenly after you have dried them up during long screen hours. You can purchase a bottle and put one or two drops in each of your eyes whenever they feel dry or twice a day.

If you have been searching for cheap glasses online, you don’t need to look further as Specscart is offering the best frames, in terms of the quality and the design, at incredibly affordable prices. You can check their website to go through their range of men’s and women’s glasses.
