Frances Liddy was the wife of the late George Gordon Liddy, who was an American FBI agent and lawyer. She was born on December 2, 1932, in Poughkeepsie, New York, to Thomas F. Purcell and Alfarata Toomey. Frances was the only child, and as such, she was greatly loved by her parents, who were determined to ensure that their daughter never lacked. She was reserved and quiet, but then she was determined to do well in her endeavors.

Early Life and Education

Frances’s family stayed in Poughkeepsie for a while before relocating to Scottsdale, Arizona, where she grew up and went to elementary school. After elementary school, she joined Poughkeepsie High School, graduating in 1950. Frances did not stop her education at high school, but she proceeded to the College of New Rochelle, where she graduated with a bachelor’s degree in economics.

Frances Liddy was passionate about education, and as such, she furthered her studies by obtaining her Master’s Degree from the State University of New York. Upon completion of her college education, Frances Liddy moved with her husband to Washington, D.C. While her husband was working as a lawyer, Frances Liddy was working as an economic analyst at Savings Bank. Her career as an economic analyst, which spanned 18 years, was intriguing and an excellent time for her.

Besides her career as an economic analyst, she was also a teacher; she taught in various public schools, and Frances had a keen interest in underprivileged students as she made a positive impact on their lives. Frances Liddy also had a passion for painting; it is something she had been interested in since she was a teen. She often traveled as she studied painting and nature, and she later became an accomplished watercolorist.

Personal Life

Frances Liddy met her husband while she was in college. They became close, and later, their friendship transitioned into something else. It is unclear how long the two lovebirds dated, but they exchanged their wedding vows in November 1957. The couple was together for over forty years until Frances Liddy died in 2010. During their fort-two-year marriage, Frances and her husband had five children: Alexandra Liddy Bourne, James Gordon Liddy, Thomas Purcell Liddy, Raymond Joseph, and Grace Alfarata Liddy.

Frances Liddy lived an extraordinary life filled with love, kindness, service, and devotion. It is something she will be forever remembered for by her family and loved ones. She died on February 5, 2010, aged 78; circumstances surrounding her death are unclear, but she was probably battling a disease.

Her Husband

Frances’ husband was an American lawyer who gained notoriety in the 1970s following his arrest in relation to the Watergate Scandal. He was the leader of the team that had broken into the Democratic National Committee headquarters, after which he was arrested and charged with burglary.

He was found guilty of the charges, and he spent four and half years in various federal prisons. Even after his conviction, people continued to support his interests and political views. After his release, he started working in various capacities, including as a radio show host and a political commentator. Frances’s husband died due to Parkinson’s disease on March 30, 2021.
