Mega has a limit of 1.5 GB within a certain period of time. When you reach that limit, you will see a message like this, where Mega will offer you different plans and packages so you can continue downloading.
To test this and surpass the limit, let’s download a file of 2.53 gigabytes. But before we begin, we need to sign in to Mega or create an account if you don’t have one. I’m going to sign in because I already have an account. It doesn’t matter if the account is old, new, or if it’s full. We simply need to sign in.
Once inside our account, let’s go back to the file we want to download and click on “Download” here. At this point, we haven’t applied anything yet because we are still using the free download option from Mega, which means 1.5 gigabytes within a certain period of time.
To make all this work and exceed the 1.5 GB limit, we will need a VPN. Mega works in a simple way—it blocks the IP, which is like the address of your computer. So we need a VPN to change our IP and allow us to exceed the 1.5 GB limit. Let me guide you through the process so we don’t lose the progress we have already made.
The VPN I’m talking about is called Hola VPN. It’s a free VPN, and you can find it by searching for “Hola VPN extension” on Google. Add it to Google Chrome, and it will automatically download and install the extension. You just have to pin it here so it always appears in this corner.
Once we reach the limit, let’s activate our VPN. Once the VPN is activated, it will take us back to the main part of our Mega account. Simply go back and click on “Download” again to restart the process. It will resume from 1.5 gigabytes, as you can see at the bottom. It shows the time I have been using the VPN. After using the 1.5 gigabytes, it took approximately 8 minutes to download an additional gigabyte.
If you find that the server you chose from Mega, for example, in my case, I chose the United States, is not the fastest, you can try other servers to find the one that suits you best.
