Web series have been very popular among viewers these days. Especially at the crucial phase of a global pandemic, where most cinema halls have been closed, people can enjoy their daily dose of entertainment with web films like The Thinning. It came five years ago. Michael Gallagher is the man behind the direction of this science fiction thriller American web-film.

The main attraction of The Thinning is the famous YouTuber and boxer Logan Paul in the mainstream role. He is joined by other star casts including Matthew Glave, Peyton List, Stacey Dash, and Calum Worthy. The plot of The Thinning is set in the suffering future showing enforcement of population control via an aptitude test in school. Those failing to excel in it face execution. 

Even though The Thinning got a thumbs-up response from the audience, still the web film showed lesser enthusiasm. The focus was given much on the YouTuber and actor Logan Paul, his co-star actress Peyton List, idea and gripping theme. But the web film failed to make the maximum advantage of its basis. And for that, it faced much criticism. 

After the release of its two seasons before, now the viewers have set their eyes on its upcoming third season. So will it be coming soon or is it canceled after the second installment? Let us find out in this article.

Story plot

The Thinning comes with a worrying future story plot. It takes place much beyond in the year 2039, showing overpopulation on earth. There comes the declaration when all the nations are given directions for cropping down their population annually by 5%. It applies a systematic test tactic in the form of Thinning or 10-241. Anyone failing to excel in it will face execution. 

Now comes the main character named Blake Redding, the son of Dean Redding, a governor from Texas. He is shown dating Ellie Harper, a girl he is interested in. Both of them are unprepared for the Thinning exam. But surprisingly Blake excels in the test, whereas his girlfriend Ellie fails in it. He requests his father to free her, but his father Dean does not pay heed to his request and refuses. 

A year later, to test the loyalty of his father, Blake plans to fail intentionally on the last exam through a video. But his father Dean Redding seems clever. After noticing Blake’s announcement, he orders Mason King, his manager, to get his son passed, no matter if he scores poorly. Mason follows the order of Blake’s father and changes his score with Laina, an intelligent class fellow, and passes Blake. 

To help Laina escape by unbolting the doors, teacher Ms. Birch secretly hands her a keycard not letting anyone notice about it. Blake also helps her in taking the advantage of a power cut in school, to give her a chance for escape. But unfortunately, it does not happen due to a lockdown in school. When Laina uses the keycard given by her teacher, she meets up with Blake. 

Truth about deaths

After struggling a lot from escaping from school guards, Laina enters the server room and checks the scores. Then she comes to know that the deaths given to the students were wrong, and it all happened due to the shuffling of the test scores. After that, she gives it to Kellen, her friend who shares a good bond with the news anchor. 

When the power gets back, the camera catches her view, after which she is taken to the Thinning. Meanwhile, Blake, who is disguised, makes efforts in releasing the remaining students that are also wrongly failed. But there he picks up a fight against the guards. When Blake’s father comes to know all about it he takes the strict decision in punishing all those that have failed. And this time he won’t spare even his son Blake. 

After the end of lockdown, Laina once again gets united with Corrine, her sister, and also Ms. Birch, the teacher, who helped her in escaping via keycard. She (Ms. Birch) has been the caretaker of Laina’s sister after the demise of her mother. On the other side, Blake is seen with others in a large underground elevator. There he sees the workforce in Assuru Global, a tech firm. When he wakes up from a sleep drug, he sees Ellie, a blonde girl.

Logan Paul

Logan Paul plays the main character of Blake Redding in The Thinning. Logan was born Logan Alexander Paul in 1995 on 1st April. He is a famous YouTuber, social media personality, boxer, and also actor. Since November 2018, he has been running his YouTube podcast Impaulsive. By 2021, he gained around 23 million subscribers to his YouTube channel. 

Other than The Thinning, Logan Paul was also seen in other films including The Thinning: New World Order, Valley Girl, and Can’t Take It Back. He also starred in several TV series as guest roles in Law and Order: Special Victims Unit, Bizaardvark, and Ridiculousness. He made appearances in WWE Smackdown and Wrestlemania 37. He also appeared in the reality show The Masked Singer but got eliminated after a second appearance. 

Peyton List

Peyton plays another female mainstream role of Laina Michaels in The Thinning. Peyton was born as Peyton Roi List in 1998 on 6th April. She is a model and a talented actress from America. Peyton was seen in her debut film 27 Dresses followed by numerous other films including Spiderman 2, Confessions of a Shopaholic, The Sorcerors’ Apprentice, Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days, Batman Hush, and Aileen Wuornos: American Boogeywoman (2021).

The American actress has also appeared in television series including As the World Turns, Cashmere Mafia, Gossip Girl, Pass the Plate, Bunk’d, Cobra Kai, and Robot Chicken.

When to expect The Thinning 3?

Well, the news is disappointing for Logan fans as there won’t be any The Thinning 3 after the blacklisting of the YouTuber. Hence drop your expectations for the comeback of this web film series. Till now there has been no news or updates on its release. There is very little chance of its release.
