There’s so much information out there about ways to improve your metabolism that it can be difficult to know what really works. Thankfully, we’re here to give you all of the information that you need. Here are 5 great tips on how you can improve your metabolism in your body.

Start The Day On The Right Foot

When it comes to revving up your metabolism, starting the day on the right foot can make all the difference. There are a few things that you can do in order to get your metabolism in its best shape right from the word go.

First, make sure that you are eating a high quality breakfast each morning. You may be tempted to skip breakfast to save those calories, but this won’t do you any favors since you may be more prone to sluggishness and eating too much later on in the day. Make sure that the breakfast is heavy in lean protein and complex carbohydrates, such as something made with some eggs and vegetables. Oh, and get plenty of cold water into your body too in order to get you going! 

Get Some H2O

Speaking of water, never underestimate the power of a good old glass of H2O! A lot of studies have found that people who choose to drink water rather than drinks high in sugar will usually be more successful in their weight loss efforts. This is in part due to the fact that water doesn’t contain calories, but it can also help to make you fuller.

If you drink a glass of water before a meal, for instance, you are less likely to feel hungry after you have finished the meal.  It’s also been shown that it may contribute to a temporary increase in your metabolic speed too. Basically, you should drink plenty of water! 

Increase Your Protein Intake

Protein is great if you want to improve your metabolism. When you are eating, something called the ‘thermic effect of food happens.’ Essentially it causes your body to burn calories as you eat because the body needs to work to process and digest the food.

When you eat protein, your body has to work harder to digest it, burning more calories. Likewise, you are also more likely to feel full after having meals where there is a high protein load, so you’re less likely to snack later on.  Protein is good for when you’re trying to gain muscle too, which is important for your metabolism.

Try HIIT Training

Studies have shown that High Intensity Interval Training, or HIIT for short, is very effective for boosting your metabolic function. It increases your metabolic rate, and this increase remains even in the period of time after the workout has ended. It’s handy if you want to burn fat too, so it’s worth trying a few HIIT workouts a week as part of your routine.

Lift Heavy

The amount of muscle in your body can have a big impact on your metabolism. If you have more muscle then your body has to work harder to keep your body functioning, so you burn more calories at rest. As such, it’s handy for lifting weight. Of course, there’s no better way to gain muscle than to lift heavy things. This can include free weights like dumbbells, lifting barbells with weight plates or could incorporate things like resistance bands.

Not everyone is familiar with weight training, but it’s definitely worth your time to look into it if you want to improve your metabolism. There are plenty of free online videos that you can follow on sites such as YouTube that will show you the ropes. Find something that works for you – you’ll most likely find it enjoyable too, since it releases those happy hormones in your body.
