About the Jump Street Franchise
Although a lot of people came to know about Jump Street after the release of 21 Jump Street in 2012, it actually started way back in the 1980s. Jump Street is an American franchise that started in 1987 focused on the “Jump Street” program. This program is made of younger-looking undercover policemen who infiltrate schools and other establishments commoned by minor people to investigate crimes and other illegal activities.
21 Jump Street Series
The first project of this franchise was the 21 Jump Street TV series. It ran for a total of 103 episodes from 1987 to 1991. It was a drama and crime series aired on Fox.
Booker
Booker was a spin-off of the 21 Jump Street series and was the second installment of the Jump Street franchise. It is also a crime drama series and ran for a year and was aired on Fox as well.
21 Jump Street Movie
The movie, 21 Jump Street, was released in 2012. It is an action-comedy film that follows the lives of two police officers who were forced to go back to high school to investigate and arrest the supplier of a synthetic drug revolving around the school. The main stars of this movie are Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill. It was directed by Christopher Miller and Phil Lord.
22 Jump Street
This is the sequel to the 21 Jump Street film and was released in 2014. It follows where the main characters left off and they are now attending college for their next case. The main characters are still played by Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill. It was still directed by Christopher Miller and Phil Lord.
Will There Be a 23 Jump Street Movie?
It was announced in September 2014 that a 23 Jump Street movie was going to happen. Two months after, it was revealed that the third installment will be a crossover between the Jump Street series and the Men in Black movies. In August 2015, it was known that Miller and Lord signed contracts as producers and writers for the third Jump Street movie.
Later on next year, it was reveaaled that the title of the movie will be MIB 23. According to plans, the movie was supposed to be released sometime in 2021. However, it was announced in 2019 that 24 Jump Street will be released first and that MIB 23 is reserved to be released on a later date.
Is There Another Jump Street Installment?
In April 2015, it was announced that another Jump Street movie was in the works. It is going to be female-centered, with two policewomen going undercover as teacher and daughter. In December 2016, Rodney Rothman signed a contract to be the screenwriter and director of the movie. He is also the screenwriter for 22 Jump Street and MIB 23.
In December 2018, Awkwafina and Tiffany Haddish were in negotiations that they will work together as the two main characters of the movie. However, in 2019, it was revealed that it will be Zendaya who will work with Haddish and that the movie will be titled as 24 Jump Street. The schedule of production was believed to have started in 2019.
