Tension is in the air because exams are here!
People are seen rushing through the college corridors with bundles of books in their hands. Sitting in silent corners and pouring over their lecture notes. Basically, living in the library and praying to pass the term finals.
It’s at this point that my friends and I curse the carefree days when we missed lectures and did not pay attention to what the teachers said. I mean, who even gets serious when there’s SO much entertaining stuff to get into?
But as I said, we’re at the mercy of the internet to convert our unappetizing books into digestible snippets of information. There’s no other alternative!
The Dilemma:
For this very purpose, I arranged a study session in my college dorm this weekend and invited my friends over. We hoped to catch as many online lectures and breeze through as many e-notes as possible. But guess what? We couldn’t even get through the first video lecture! Why? Because it kept on endlessly buffering and loading endlessly. The renowned professor would speak for a second and then get stuck, bringing us all to the point of pulling our hair out in frustration!
To make matters worse, my stubborn roommate decided to hog the already-weak signals coming from my skimpy single-band router. Doing what? Netflix and chilling, that’s what!
Besides being heavily distracted by the streaming shows, we were getting absolutely nowhere in our studies.
The Solution:
Miraculously, as if on cue, a passing-by friend told me a way to mega-boost my exhausted internet signals and say goodbye to all my worries, FOREVER. He suggested chucking the old single-band router in favor of a more advanced and sophisticated DUAL-band router.
After researching for a bit, I definitely saw what he meant.
The single-band router works over a single minor frequency that’s more than commonly waylaid by interferences from other devices operating on the same frequency. The signal output is thereby weakened and can’t bear the multiple-user browsing load. Hence, the ultimate buffering!
Whereas, the dual-band router operates over TWO frequencies on the usual 2.4 GHz and the uber-fast 5 GHz, thus giving more choices and a larger networking window to users.
The choice was clear for me!
The Relief:
Yesterday, after installing the dual-band router and benefitting from the top-notch services by AT&T, my friends and I studied for four hours on end without a single break! The AT&T Internet plans are highly reasonable and offer lighting high speed. Each video loaded super smoothly in impressive quality, and we didn’t even have to fight off that stubborn roommate over the signals. Slowly and steadily, with the help of the lightning-fast internet connection, we covered the whole syllabus and understood the perplexing problems.
While in their own vicinities, people streamed movies, played online games, and tuned music, all on the same router. Yet the signals did not get jammed even once.
It’s a win-win for everyone.
Today, we came out of the examination hall with our heads raised and smiles on our faces. It’s all because I updated the router to a dual-band version just in time.
