Your home or apartment’s kitchen is more than a place to heat up some food. It is an outlet for creativity, a place to gather with family and friends, and an area to enjoy making memories, sharing laughter, and enjoying stories while crafting a gourmet dish. The kitchen is, hands-down, one of the most important rooms when you get ready to resell your home, as well.

Given the importance of this room, it’s critical that you not only maintain the overall look and feel, but invest in making it look like the dream kitchen you’ve always imagined. While you may not have the budget to completely redo the cupboards, sink, and countertops, there is one thing you can probably do – paint.

Painting a kitchen is one of the easiest and best things you can do to upgrade the area, give yourself a totally new look, and get the most value out of your budget. If you’re ready to embark on the painting journey, here are several color trends we think you should consider.

Black-White-and-Red-Kitchen

Greys and Neutral Tones

One of the most well-loved color schemes for 2020 is grey and neutral tones in the kitchen. These tones pair extremely well with the ever popular farmhouse style that has taken the country by storm. Though a grey that has a blue undertone is too cold for many people, there are numerous popular grey tones such as “greige” that pairs a warm undertone with grey to create an in between grey-beige that works on numerous levels. Farmhouse kitchens can benefit from this type of coloring to pair with woodgrain or laminate wood-like flooring, white or distressed kitchen cabinets, and the latest styles in countertops.

Since grey is so neutral, you can choose to accent your kitchen with bright pops of yellow, choose gold hardware, or even incorporate other bold colors such as oranges, reds, and pinks. Grey becomes the perfect backdrop for nearly any floor design, countertop option, and décor plans you might have.

Bright Colors

There’s nothing like bright pops of color in the kitchen. When it comes to places in the home where you go extra bold in your color choices, kitchens are the best room in the house. Here are just a few ideas to get you started.

Marigold Yellow

Love the idea of yellow so much that you want to paint your entire kitchen with it? Expert New York City Painters say go for it! Yellow is a bright, inviting, welcoming, and joyful color. It inspires creativity and provides a beautiful backdrop for year-round entertaining.

Barn Red

Love the farmhouse look so much that you want to bring it inside? Barn red for kitchen walls can provide a bright, cozy feel that makes for a wonderful backdrop for numerous décor styles from farmhouse to art deco and modern themes.

Bright Blue

Blue-and-White-Kitchen

Think bright blue is out of the question in your kitchen? Think again! This lively hue is eye-catching and peaceful all at the same time. Proceed with caution, however. This color is better for an accent wall instead of every surface you can think of.

Two-Tone

If the idea of bright, beautiful colors appeals to you but you’re not sure what colors to commit to, consider going with a decidedly two-tone kitchen. Here are several colors palates to get your creativity and ideas flowing.

Blue and orange

If you have a modern design kitchen and a lot of white cabinetry, go with a blue and orange combo. Bright orange creates a pop of color against a soft blue. Both pair well with the popular wood grain flooring found in numerous kitchens today.

Black and White

This is possibly the most classic color combo of all. Black and white is easily balanced and just as easily accented. Keep the predominant colors to these two and enjoy decorating your kitchen with pops of red from your kitchen aid, yellow with a bowl of lemons, or other bright colors in moderation.

Brown and Green

If you have a predominant wood theme throughout your kitchen, contrast the brown of the wood with a light green for your walls, cabinetry, or backsplash. Reminiscent of nature, this color combo is gentle on the eyes and provides a sense of calming serenity.

Contrasting Colors

Contrasting colors often provide a sense of balance, purpose, and enjoyment in your kitchen. They can be light colors or bold, and they can easily be complemented with other colors that align with their palate. Here are a few colors to get you thinking.

Blue and White

For a kitchen that looks and feels fresh, open, and airy, go with blue and white. This combination easily resembles the feeling you have when looking up at the sky or the ocean. If you want to bring the outside in, this is the combination you want.

Cool Grey and Orange

If you want a pop of happy color to go with a modern design or boho kitchen, this color scheme is perfect. The grey forms a perfect backdrop for the bold orange, and both colors will accent well with boho color schemes like blues, purples, greens, and whites for your dishware or décor items.

Make Your Kitchen YOUnique

The color scheme for your kitchen should be just as fun, unique, and interesting as you are. Whatever you choose, make sure it reflects your individual personality. Remember, you’ll be spending a lot of time in your kitchen. Make sure it’s a place that you want to be in. Whether you choose a single color, two-toned color scheme, or a contrasting color palate, you’re sure to create a beautiful area in your home that you’ll love for years to come.
