One of the more difficult things about growing older is having to deal with death and losing the people you love so much. Sometimes living a long life can feel like both a curse and a blessing.

The plus side is you do get to experience more of this amazing world we live in but at the same time, you have to deal with the pain of seeing cherished family members leave this world before you.

When a family member dies, you need to take some time to heal. One of the steps that can help you with this process is getting a gift that will help everyone who’s bereaved keep the loved one alive in their hearts.

Here’s a list of several thoughtful gifts you should consider when celebrating the life of a family member who has passed on. See more to learn about memorial gifts.

1. Make a Photo Album

A picture album with photos of family members spending time with the deceased can really help bring the family together. It can help you preserve the joyous moments you spent together so that you and your family can look back on the amazing experiences you shared.

It can be quite an emotional task piecing pictures together to create a memorial photo book but that might be exactly what you need to heal.

2. Plant a Memorial Tree

Planting a tree is a fantastic way of creating a living memorial, especially if the late family member had a passion for the environment. This type of memorial services is becoming more common in 2022.

You can buy a seedling and plant it at their gravesite so you can continue to visit them as the plant grows and matures. Many people love the concept of sitting under the shade of a tree that bears some physical connection to someone that they held dear but lost.

3. Consider Getting Memorial Plaques

Memorial plaques, or commemorative plaques, are an excellent and classy way of giving tribute to a late family member. They help to preserve their dignity, recognize their accomplishments, and celebrate their life altogether

Memorial plaques can be made from wood, stone, or metal. They usually have details such as the name of the deceased, their dates of birth and death, and a special message describing their life and how much they will be missed.

4. Start a Charity in Their Name

If there’s a cause that mattered to your loved one, a great idea would be to start a charity fund in their name. This will help your family find healing by starting something positive to found their legacy on.

For instance, you can conduct an online fundraiser and set up a scholarship at their old school, college, or university. You can also sponsor a child or animal through the charity.

The Bottom Line

Losing a loved member of the family is a very difficult experience for many people, even traumatizing. One of the scariest things about it all is the idea that you might forget them despite the great memories you have of the special time you spent together.

One way of making sure that the memory of their loss doesn’t overshadow the joyous times you spent together is by commemorating their life with a gift to show that you still love them even after they’re gone.
