Simple Advice For Finding Comfortable Diabetic Footwear

Diabetics will always understand the importance of selecting shoes that offer the balance between fit and comfort. Common footwear problems such as corns, blisters, and calluses can become serious health conditions for those with diabetes. Selecting the right footwear is the first step in avoiding problems that may prove threatening at a later time.

Unfortunately, a recent study has revealed that only about 60 percent of diabetics will purchase a correctly fitted shoe. This means that your best bet for ensuring proper fit is to get your feet measured and fitted at a specialty shoe store. Knowing your actual size will make it easier to purchase shoes that are comfortable, safe, and properly support your feet like Ryka shoes.

Below are some simple tips to help you select the right footwear:

*Try on shoes towards the end of the day when your feet are most swollen.

*Always opt for shoes with a roomy toe box and avoid anything pointed which can squish feet.

*Proper lace-up shoes are a better way to get adequate foot support than loosely fitted slip-ons.

*Avoid open-toed shoes which subject your feet to cuts, blisters, and bruises.

*Heels can add undue pressure to the balls of your feet.

*Buy two pairs of a shoe you find comfortable. This allows you to have a backup pair or to alternate wearing the shoes on different days.

*Don’t wear the same shoes daily as they need time to dry and air out.

*Footwear should feel comfortable the moment you try it on. Never purchase anything with the belief that it will stretch out or conform to your feet better.

*As diabetics have nerve problems, walking barefoot is often dangerous and can lead to cuts and blisters. Always wear a properly fitted and supportive shoe that protects against all surfaces.
