Early Life

Randy Travis entered the world on May 4, 1959, in Marshville, North Carolina, United States. His mother was Bobbie Traywick, and his father was Harold Traywick. Randy’s real name is Randy Bruce Traywick. He is 2nd oldest of six siblings. His father, Harold, worked as a meat packer and constructed houses.

Randy gained musical passion from his father. Harold Traywick used to play country music all the time while he was at home. Harold sent Randy and his five brothers to a friend, Kate Magnum, to learn how to play guitar.

In 1968, Randy and his brother Ricky performed for the first time on stage in a singing competition in their elementary school. They didn’t win the show, however, they continued to perform in various competitions and shows.

Randy only studied till ninth grade because he had to drop out for several criminal offenses, such as stealing, reckless driving, and public intoxication.

In early 1985, Randy Travis signed a contract with Warner Nashville and recorded songs like Prairie Rose, Carrying Fire, Reasons I Cheat, and On the Other Hand. Later, Randy appeared in the show Nashville Now on May 17, 1985. He recorded his next song ‘On The Other Hand’, which topped the Hot Country Songs list at 67th place. In the following years, Travis gave hits like Honky Tonk Moon, Deeper Than the Holler, and Is It Still Over?  The songs became popular among the public and Travis began to gain fame in the country music scene.
