Maternity Walks: It is Possible And Good For You

Everything changes once that pregnancy belly starts growing. Your entire body changes, and you feel differences and difficulties you never knew existed. Simply putting the shoes on becomes a challenging activity, which is why many mothers-to-be stay home in their pajamas.

Pajamas are the most comfortable piece of clothing, but your body needs constant movement unless there’s a reason to stay in bed. Being physically active while pregnant is a wise thing to do.

Since you can’t lift weights as bodybuilders do, you need moderate physical activity. Walking around the park is an excellent choice. They require just a little engagement, but a 30-minute walk per day is just enough to stay healthy and in great shape.

In this article, we’re talking more about maternity walks. We will explain why they are great, how to do them, and what to mind when doing them. Keep reading to learn more about these things, and don’t forget to be active while pregnant.

1. Don’t push yourself too much

Some women are trying to stay in shape, and they’ll push themselves too much with physical activities that can do more harm than good for them. A simple walk should be nice and easy, without rushing or too much pressure on you.

A walk in the park means enjoying the time spent outside. It means walking around the place, seeing how kids play, adults enjoying their conversations, ducks swimming in the pond, breathing fresh air, and similar things.

The walk is not meant to be an obligation but a pleasure. If you don’t feel like walking too much, do it just enough to keep up with the plan to be healthy. You don’t have to do anything extraordinary, but have a comfortable walk around the park.

2. Get ready and know how to feel comfortable while active

To be and feel comfortable, though, you need the right equipment. Some essential things that will make your walk enjoyable are the shoes, the clothes on you, and the accessories you carry.

The first thing to mind is getting new and comfortable shoes. Look for those designed for running – they are usually the best choice. You don’t want to feel your feet hurt and need to rest for days until you feel better to walk again.

The clothes you’re wearing can play a significant role in how you feel. Maternity means a constant rush of hormones, sweating, and feeling hot, so you need to be dressed adequately. A wide oversized dress that will cover your entire body, but is lightweight and comfortable, is an excellent choice.

Don’t forget to get yourself a pair of leggings and a nursing sports bra, as these things will keep you perfectly comfortable with those annoying moments when physical activity and sweat combine and make you ache.

3. Make a plan and try to follow it

We previously said that you shouldn’t rush things and you shouldn’t set plans you can’t meet, but some schedule is crucial if you want to have constant physical activity. If you don’t create a plan, you’ll feel tired most days and say to yourself that you’ll make it up tomorrow, but you never will.

You don’t have to do anything special. Just 20 or 30 minutes per day walking through the park is enough to keep yourself in shape. Remember that being physically active and in shape will make the delivery much easier and safer.

Set a plan and follow it. Find the best route and the best time to do it. It may be early in the morning or late in the evening, but whatever you think is best for you – oblige it. This way, you’ll keep a positive rule that you’ll be active and fully prepared for the big moment.

4. It is better done in company than solo

When you’re pregnant, you should never go anywhere without your phone. Whatever happens to you, someone else will come and give you a helping hand. Sometimes, even the phone is not enough. If the water breaks, you’ll need someone to be there with you and take you to the hospital immediately.

That’s why having company while walking is the best option. Find a friend who likes to keep you company or another woman in her maternity stage. The two of you can hang out and enjoy the walks together without worrying that something unwanted will happen.

Conclusion

These are some of the most valuable pieces of advice you can get when it comes to keeping active while you’re pregnant. Regular walks around the city or in the park are essential for your well-being and ability to deliver properly. Keep yourself in perfect shape, exercise regularly, be happy, and wait for the big moment just as you should.
