Lucifer is a fiction thriller based on the comic book, “The Sandman”, which was created by Neil Gaiman, Sam Kieth, and Mike Dringenberg. The DC comic characters worked to make the plot even more interesting. The creation of Tom Kapinos, Lucifer aired on Fox networks. It features Tom Ellis, Lauren German, Kevin Alejandro, D. B. Woodside, Lesley-Ann Brandt, Rachael Harris, Scarlett Estevez, Kevin Rankin, Tricia Helfer, Aimee Garcia, Tom Welling and Inbar Lavi in prominent roles. It has 5 seasons and 75 episodes.
Lucifer is an urban fantasy, in which a devil comes to the real (our) world and helps the police in solving cases. The devil, Lucifer Morningstar is the owner of a nightclub and has just returned from hell to accomplish his purpose. What purpose? You’ll discover it eventually. His nightclub is called “Lux”. He soon gets introduced to “LAPD” and joins them as a consultant. The series has been shot around Vancouver and Los Angeles.

The show has been inspired by the characters of the DC Marvel series and “The Sandman”. It’s background score was composed by Ben Decter, Jeff Russo, Marco Beltrami and Dennis Smith. The first season of the series, neither wasn’t too criticised, nor did it receive much praise. Due to a major fall in the ratings of the show on Fox network, from the first to the third season, the deal between the makers of the show and Fox network was dissolved. Soon after the deal broke, Netflix came forward and picked the show from its fourth season. As soon as it premiered on Netflix, it’s ratings improved and it started receiving critical acclaim. The series was brought to life twice by Netflix. They renewed its fifth season and when there were rumours of the series concluding in the fifth season, Netflix decided to give it a sixth one and finish it better.
Cast and Characters
The character of Lucifer Morningstar has been played by Tom Ellis. He has been portrayed as the Lord of Hell. Lucifer feels done with his mundane life and therefore tries to find an escape and excitement. In search of it, he leaves his throne for five years and visits the earth. He drops in Los Angeles and joins their Police Department. He is also the owner of his nightclub called “Lux”. The fifth season of the series is quite a watch. When Lucifer returns to hell, his twin brother, played by Ellis, pretends to be him.
Lauren German had played the character of Detective Chloe Decker. Chloe is a homicide detective and joins the police force since her father was also in the police department. There is a romantic angle between Lucifer and Chloe. The two work together and are quite comfortable around each other. Lucifer starts falling for her when he realizes that his activities do not really affect her. Kevin Alejandro has played the character of Detective Daniel “Dan” Espinoza. He is also an LAPD homicide detective, just like his ex wife Chloe. D. B. Woodside has played the character of Amenadiel. Amendiel is the elder brother of Lucifer and an angel. He comes to Los Angeles to convince Lucifer to get back to hell and take up his throne that he abandoned. Lucifer refuses but Amendiel does not lose hope. Instead, he tries his best to force him back into hell.
Lesley-Ann Brandt
Lesley-Ann Brandt has played the character of Mazikeen. Maze AKA Mazikeen is one of the most trusted devotees of Lucifer Morningstar. She follows her master to earth and works as a bartender at Lucifer’s night club. Maze’s mother Lilith has been an ex lover of Lucifer and was played by Brandt. Scarlett Estevez played the character of Beatrice “Trixie” Espinoza. She’s The daughter of Chloe from her ex husband Dan. She is also a good friend of Lucifer and Maze.
Rachael Harris featured in the series, playing Dr. Linda Martin, who is a psychotherapist. She has a son Charlie from Amenadiel. Charlie is a half angel baby (given that Amenadiel is an angel and Linda, a human). Kevin Rankin played the character of Detective Malcolm Graham. Graham is a police officer who was shot dead initially. But when Amenadiel wants to kill Lucifer, he brings Graham with him.
Ella Lopez
Aimee Garcia has played the character of Ella Lopez who is a forensic scientist and works for the Los Angeles Police Department. As the story unfolds, Ella reveals that she meets Rae – Rae, who is the Angel of death. Rae -Rae is the sister of Lucifer and had been visiting, since she was young and had once met with a car accident. Tricia Helfer played the character of “Mum” or Goddess of all creation. She takes the body of Charlotte Richards. She is the wife of God who had been exiled long before. Also, she is the mother of Lucifer and Amenadiel.
Mum escapes hell and reaches earth and gets into Charlotte’s body. Charlotte was a lawyer who had been brutally murdered. Tom Welling played the character of Lieutenant Marcus Pierce, who murdered Charlotte in season 3. He is a police officer and later is revealed to be “Cain”. Cain is the son of Adam and Eve and had been cursed to be on the earth forever and wander with “Cain” marked on his skin. Inbar Lavi played Eve, or Cain’s mother. She was also the ex lover of Lucifer and has left heaven and come to the earth.
Episodes
The first season had 13 episodes and premiered on 25 January, 2016. The second season aired on September 19, 2016 and has 18 episodes. The third season aired on October 2, 2017 and had 26 episodes. The fourth season had 10 episodes and aired on May 8, 2019. Talking about the fifth season, it’s first half aired on August 21, 2020 and had 8 episodes. The premier date for the second half of the fifth season and the sixth season hasn’t been announced yet. However, it has been informed that the second half of the fifth season will have 8 episodes and the sixth season will have 10 episodes.
