How to Style a Staycation-Worthy Interior in Central Florida

With summer around the corner, many homeowners are taking the time to give their houses a refresh. Add to that Central Florida’s tropical climate and there’s even more of a reason to make updates that are not only warm weather-ready for outdoor entertaining, but add to that staycation feeling. From patios that are more like outdoor living rooms, to taking greenery and lighting up a level, redecorating a house to get into vacation mode, or to sell your Central Florida home, can happen in even just a few steps.

Add green

If you want to update your home for summer without a major investment or remodel, then adding plants is an ideal first step. Greenery in your home can create a fresh and bright feeling, especially if you add succulents, or other warm-weather plants that don’t require a lot of watering. With one trip to a garden store you can put plants anywhere, from the bathroom to kitchen, whether in pots on the floor, on shelves, or hanging.

Air plants are another option that can be versatile because without roots they can even form a plant wall. Just be sure that your plants are in a part of your home that gets sunlight and create a regular schedule for watering them. You’ll want to be sure to select plants that can survive indoors and throughout different temperatures, to keep them thriving all year long.

Go bright and bold

As the temperature rises, our clothing tends to get brighter, with dark hues in winter and bold colors in summer. The same can apply to home decor. The possibilities are endless for where and how to add color to redecorate your home for warm weather. Some ideas are adding shades of coral, white, and green, with pillows, a vase, or lampshade.

Gold accents can also add an air of luxury, with mirror frames, vases, lamps, or with updated hardware on drawer pulls or knobs. You can even add an accent wall, but may want to skip painting an entire room, which will require a greater investment. If considering an accent wall, you aren’t limited to solid colors, wallpaper is an on-trend addition that can become the focal point for a room.

Consider palettes and patterns

If you aren’t sure where to look for inspiration for colors and patterns, cues from nature can help to give your home a summer glow. For example, a beach scene with sand, sea, and sky colors, can give you a palette with neutrals and blues that can work in nearly any room of your house. Tropical-inspired patterns such as palms or florals are also both worth considering.

You may be surprised how a couple of pillows or framed artwork can change the energy of your home, and can be easily swapped out in the fall or winter. Another way to give your refresh staying power is to work with a mostly neutral palette for couches, chairs, and walls, and then add a few dashes of color as accents. Patterns and colors can be added to one room, or you can restyle your home with a color palette that can work nearly anywhere as fun decor.

Bring nature indoors

Colors, patterns, and plants can all bring the great outdoors into your home, or you can select furniture and decor made from natural materials such as bamboo, jute, and rope. An ottoman or rug woven from one of those materials can add an island atmosphere. Other places to add natural materials are lampshades, placemats, and baskets for storing shoes, kids toys, or other essentials. A collection of shells along with candles in mason jars are a quick and easy way to decorate a table, whether it’s in your dining room or on your patio, with a touch of the outdoors.

Turn your patio into a sanctuary

While balconies, patios, and backyards might be overlooked in the fall and winter, in spring and summer it’s time to refresh them to get ready for summer entertaining. Even a small space can be transformed into a retreat with a few plants, comfortable furniture, and lighting to help the space go from day to night. Picking furniture with all-weather cushions and even adding a weather resistant rug, or a fire pit, can give your outdoor space a resort atmosphere.

Updating your home can make it a relaxing place to spend time in while you are waiting to go away on your next vacation.
