How to consider seasonality in your interior design

Our climate has taught us to change seasons. Each season is a defined set of associations, moods, activities, holidays, traditions, which also affects the way of life.

We are accustomed to adapting our wardrobe to the seasonal changes of weather, so that we feel comfortable from a physical (not cold / not hot) and a psychological point of view.

Through clothes, we can create a mood for ourselves (tune in to work) or close a need (protection from cold, bad weather).

The same approach can be applied to the interior.

Two macro-trends – the thirst for emotions and impressions, as well as speed, contribute to the growing need for change. And seasonal interior renovation can be a way to diversify one of the most important aspects of your life – your home.

Typically, there are two main requests or approaches regarding seasonal changes.

The first is the desire for the interior to match the weather, what is happening outside the window. Willingness to be on the same page with the season and everything that it offers.

For example, autumn is often the time for career changes – a new job or study. You can add a little more seriousness to the interior (as well as to the wardrobe) to make it easier to reorganize from the state of vacation to work. This is also a great reason to update the nursery, especially if the child is just starting out.

In the fall, you want to spend more time indoors, at home, so you want it to be warm and cozy. This atmosphere can also be achieved through decorative techniques. And also you can create autumn ambiance with the help of furniture with the vintage elements that will add a flair of antiquity and at the same time, it will have a modern comfortable design.

Textiles will help create coziness, and there are many options here: from the choice of fabrics (for example, velvet) to layering (several blankets instead of one, a couple of additional decorative pillows).

Ornaments play an important role (the checkered pattern is an excellent and very relevant option) and other forms – rounded, enveloping. Although, perhaps, strict autumn is associated with right angles – squares and rectangles.

If you are looking for bulk ornaments, do check PolarX Ornaments.

If we talk about color, then these are warm complex shades: chocolate, terracotta, mustard. Plus complex spruce or bottle glass color. Plus warm metals and natural materials – wood, cork, linen, leather. Ideally – with a pronounced texture.

If we talk about art, then painting with pasty strokes is more associated with autumn than, for example, watercolor works.

In autumn, warm multi-level lighting is preferable, as well as live-fire (it can be candles) and, of course, spicy aromas.

All this will help to tune in to the cold season, to make it as comfortable and cozy as possible.

In hot summers we need a cool, fresh interior, and in winter we want bright colors and tropical prints to forget about what is happening outside the window.

Of course, as with everything, there are mixed types and variations. Many people have a favorite season that they want to enjoy, including in the interior. Some months and certain weather are psychologically easier to bear, some more difficult. The interior is what a person can control. And what, unlike the weather, what can be changed and adapted. And, fortunately, this is being used more and more actively.

There are three main approaches to working with seasonality in the interior:

1. Make seasonal renewal – both once a season and, for example, once a year. Most often situation to start in winter – for spring breaks.

2.Think about the seasonal changes when you are planning interior design. As a rule, this update is in early spring for the spring-summer season and at the end of summer for the autumn-winter period.

This option is suitable for conservative whose tastes rarely change. You will be glad and grateful that everything that could refresh their interior has already been carefully selected and prepared. And during those six months that you do not see some objects, shades and ornaments, you are starting to miss them.

Most often are made two sets of curtains, bedspreads, covers for decorative pillows. Sometimes there is also an alternative for lampshades.

Also, spare seasonal sets can be for dishes, bed linen, and towels.

You can also include a change – or addition – of art and carpets in the project. And even covers for sofas and armchairs.

The most important thing is to provide a storage system for this. And the budget.

3. Leave the interior unfinished and the possibility for transformations.

The interior is created – like a capsule, a base. And to this base (which, by the way, should not be neutrally faded) and new fashionable actual things are added to it every season. This solution is suitable for those who often change preferences if you want changes and emotions. More often old things are resold, redirected, or altered.
