One of the best ways to save money on a car is to buy it at an auction. Prices are lower than retail, and there are a variety of vehicles to choose from—which is more than true at Insurance SCA Auction. You can find a variety of makes and models, all at lower prices. From like-new cars to salvage vehicles for sale, SCA auto auctions has the selection you’re looking for.

However, it’s important to know what you’re doing before you head to an auction, or you could spend more than you intended.

How Much Can You Save at a Car Auction?

The amount you can save at a car auction depends on a few factors, with the main factor being the type of auction it is. There are two main types of car auctions: dealer and public.

Typically public auctions are open to anyone whereas dealer auctions are only open to dealer license holders. However, since SCA is a registered IAA broker, public buyers have access  to purchase from the same inventory as dealers buy from.

All vehicles are sold as-is, where is without any warranties or guaranties. All sales are final, regardless if it is from a dealer only or public auction.

The other factor that affects how much you can save at a car auction is the type of car you’re looking for. Luxury cars, for example, will always be more expensive than regular cars. The same is true for sports cars and other specialty vehicles.

Typically, buyers save 20% to 50% off the retail price at a car auction. As mentioned, this will depend on a few factors, but you can be sure to save a considerable amount of money. For example, you could purchase a car selling for $30,000 at a dealership for as little as $15,000 at an auction. However, the average savings is usually around 30%.

Tips for Buying a Car at Auction

When shopping for a car at auction, there are a few things to keep in mind to get the best deal possible:

  • Know your budget: It’s easy to get caught up in the bidding and spend more than you intended. Before heading to the auction, know how much you’re willing to spend and make sure you stick to the budget.
  • Do your research: Not all auctions are the same. For instance, services like Digging for deals provide auctions for a range of different items in addition to car auctions.
  • Inspect the car: Once you find a car you’re interested in, be sure to inspect it thoroughly. Remember that the cars at an auction are sold as-is, where is, meaning there are no returns or refunds. So, make sure you inspect the car thoroughly before making a bid. It’s also a good idea to get a pre-purchase inspection from a mechanic to be sure the car is in good condition.
  • Get an EpicVin report: This will give you a car’s history, including any accidents or damage. Keep in mind that many auctions have salvage cars for sale.
  • Check the VIN: The VIN (vehicle identification number) can tell you a lot about a car. You can use it to check for recalls, theft records, and more.
