How Cabinet Lighting Can Transform Your Kitchen

Enjoying a modern, fully functional kitchen can make a huge difference to your home – in fact, a warm, inviting kitchen can play a huge role in a person’s mental health. One way to improve your mood whilst defining a specific ambience in a kitchen is with cabinet lighting; a fun, vibrant way to make your life easier, while looking fantastic in the process.

Benefits of cabinet lighting in the kitchen

Not only can under cabinet lighting make it easier to see in your kitchen, but you’ll also benefit from a fresh ambience, as well as a general enhancement to the look and feel of your kitchen.

With dedicated lighting on the underside of your cabinets, you’ll undoubtedly find it much easier to get to what you’re looking for, as well as prepare food on the countertop below, or even enjoy some quiet and relaxation in your kitchen area as something cooks in the oven or slow-cooker.

Not only can cabinet lighting be beneficial in the functional sense – it can also provide a warm, inviting glow for you and your guests to enjoy, with many types of lights being customisable in colour and style.

Types of cabinet lighting

There are three main types of cabinet lighting as detailed below, all of which can add an exciting new style to your kitchen:

  • Under-cabinet lighting, which often takes on the appearance of a round puck-like light, complete with LED bulbs that can be controlled at the press of a button
  • Above-cabinet lighting, which works by lighting up specific parts of a kitchen with a soft and gentle glow spreading up the wall and making it easier to navigate
  • In-cabinet lighting, which can either be activated whenever the door hinge opens or turned on via sensor when the door itself is pulled open

Choosing the right cabinet lighting for your kitchen

With the three options above considered, there’s really no reason why you couldn’t opt for all of them, but before deciding, a good idea is to take a look at what your kitchen could benefit from the most and then go from there. From colour temperatures to brightness – really spend some time considering for the best results.

Installing cabinet lighting in your kitchen

To do this, you’ll likely need a drill to make any required holes in cabinets, possibly a core-drill bit for an insert to place a puck light, a screwdriver to remove doors if required and some tape to help secure any wiring. Always prioritise safety when installing lighting in your kitchen, especially if working around electricity.

Maintaining your cabinet lighting

Once installed, your lighting will typically either run via electricity or battery. Keeping an eye on battery usage can help to predict when a replacement is needed, but outside of this, you’ll likely only need to wipe the surfaces of your lights clean with a dry cloth to keep them bright and efficient.

And there you have it, a selection of information on cabinet lighting – don’t forget that studies have shown it can be particularly beneficial to your health. Why not update your kitchen today with your very own cabinet lighting – we’re sure you’ll appreciate the new functionality, accessibility and aesthetics for years to come.
