The story revolves around the afterlife where humans are sent to a place named “The Good Place” and “The Bad Place”. The afterlife places have a numerical score which is based on the morality of the human’s life conduct. Humans with high-score will be sent to The Good Place. The Good Place is where humans enjoy their eternal happiness with every wish granted which is guided by Janet, artificial intelligence. The Bad place is where humans experience an eternity of torture.
The first season of The Good Place is where Eleonor and Jason believe that they have been sent to The Good Place by mistake. Eleonor is a loner, while Jason is a small-time criminal. Jason has an assigned soulmate named Tahani, a wealthy socialite. Tahani helps Michael, a kind designer of the neighborhood, to deal with the chaos caused by Jason and Eleonor’s presence.
The second season is where Michael tries again and again to erase the memories of the humans but fails every time because the humans figure it out. Later on, Michael observes that humans can improve their goodness after they die. The eternal Judge then ruled that the humans may return to their life on earth with a clean slate and to improve their morals.
The third season is where the group decides to participate in an experiment led by Chidi and Simone. They learned that the points system of entering the Good Place is fundamentally flawed and that no one has been admitted to the Good Place for centuries. The group set up an experimental simulated Good Place and tested the humans that they are capable of developing morally with proper support.
The fourth installment of the show is where the year-long experiment proves that humans can morally improve in the afterlife. Humans also can choose between the eternal bliss of the afterlife or choose to exit the afterlife instead. The final episode of the fourth season is where Eleonor, Chidi, and Jason chose to exit, while Tahani becomes a designer of the environment in the afterlife, and Michael becomes a human living on Earth.
