Are you going to waterproof your basement walls? It’s time to know what you should do and what things to avoid during the process.

Do’s of Basement Waterproofing

There are some necessary things that you need to follow to waterproof a basement.

Do Find the Water Source

If you want to get rid of all kinds of basement moisture issues, you better find out where the water finds an entry into this space. Check plumbing and sewer pipes; as most of the time, their leakage is the leading cause.

Another place to check is your windows and vent. Some experts think that there is no need to keep too many vents in the basement because they often lead to a wet basement and increase humidity. This is true, especially when you live in a flood-prone area.

Do you have showers in your basement? It might be a reason for wall cracks. It would be best if you had a proper vent in this shower to take control of humidity.

Do Fill the Cracks

The cracks on the basement walls, whether structural or non-structural, require repair services. You need to get help from Basement waterproofing professionals in Clarksburg. They are experts who can deal with both types of cracks and fill them in the best manner available.

Generally, hydraulic cement is used to fill the crevices, gaps, and cracks in the wall. Once this cement is filled, it will expand and create a water-tight bond. It’s how you add up strength in a wall with weak spots.

You should try to avoid some things at any cost if you don’t want to experience a wet basement.

Don’t Miss Window Well Repair.

If your window well doesn’t have a proper drainage system, it is a common water leak source in your basement. These wells retain the water and then create a pool around the basement window, and from there, it enters the basement. To deal with this issue, basement waterproofing experts will install a proper window well drainage system.

They will dig two feet lower in the well area and then fill the space with gravel. Now rainwater won’t collect in well, but it will disperse away. They caulk around the window and install sloped window well cover to direct rainwater away from the basement windows.

Don’t repair Standing water.

It is hard to control the urge to clean the whole area once a flood damages the whole place. As you have standing water in this place, please don’t go there. If you start repairing in this scenario, you will face a high risk of electric shock.

You can prevent this issue by turning off the power line of the basement and then collecting all the standing water in the basement with a utility pump. Next time, ask an expert to install a sump pump so you won’t have to deal with standing water issues in the future.
