Poolside plants create a refreshing environment in your backyard and improve the space’s aesthetic appeal. Moreover, the plants offer a flawless transition from nature around the backyard to the water in the pool area. If you want your backyard to feel like a resort, poolside plants might do the trick.

Plants are also great for creating a relaxing environment and improving air circulation. They provide shade around the pool and create cool, comfortable resting spots. Unfortunately, not all plants fit well around the pool. Here are some of the best poolside plants to create a resort-feel at home.

Bird of Paradise (Strelitzia reginae)

This unique plant has a striking appearance that makes it perfect for any poolside setting. The plant produces large, bold leaves that offer an impeccable contrast to the pool water. Furthermore, its flowers are impressive.

Hibiscus (Hibiscus rosa-sinensis)

Hibiscus comes in a wide range of colours that match the poolside setting. The plant is a favourite for backyard gardens, and close proximity to the pool only improves the overall aesthetics. Moreover, hibiscus adds a touch of elegance around the pool. It’s also easy to take care of the plant. Another quality that is unique to hibiscus is its growth pattern. It grows fairly quickly and produces large, showy flowers.

Palm Trees

Palm trees are a classic choice for any poolside setting. The trees instantly add a tropical vibe to your backyard, turning the space into something close to a resort. Moreover, palm trees have broad fronds that provide shade and protection from the sun. The leaves also remain green throughout the year, creating a fresh look through all seasons. Palm trees have low maintenance and last for years.

Elephant Ear (Colocasia esculenta)

The Elephant ears is a bold and dramatic plant that will add a touch of the exotic to your poolside area. The plant is known for its broad, lush, green leaves that resemble the ears of an elephant. It also offers a unique aesthetic appeal. The elephant ear is easy to care for and grows quickly.

Aloe Vera (Aloe barbadensis)

Aloe vera is a versatile and hardy plant. It’s perfect for the pool area, adding a unique aesthetic appeal. Its succulent leaves contain a gel that has been used for years as a beauty product. Furthermore, the gel is used to soothe sunburns and other skin irritations.

Agave (Agave americana)

Agave is a striking plant native to the hot and arid parts of America and the Caribbean. The plant adds a touch of the desert to your poolside area. Since it grows in harsh arid conditions, it’s low maintenance and easy to care for. Furthermore,  Agve grows fairly quickly, producing large, spiky leaves perfect for creating a barrier around your pool.

Plumeria (Plumeria spp.)

Plumeria is a famous tropical plant that produces unique, colourful flowers. It’s popular in landscaping for its endless variety in colour, size, and fragrance. Furthermore, Plumeria is easy to care for and adds a touch of elegance to any backyard.

Bougainvillea (Bougainvillea spp.)

Bougainvillea is a colourful and versatile plant that is excellent for landscaping. The plant can be trained to climb up walls and trellises around your pool to create a unique look. Aside from blending in well with the structural landscape around your pool, Bougainvillea produces large, showy flowers that come in a range of colours.

Although there are several options, choosing plants that are appropriate for your climate and will thrive in the conditions around the pool is imperative. You can always consult the experts if you are still determining which plant is the perfect fit.
