An Uncomfortable Bed and 3 More Things to Swap with Memory Foam

You’ve probably heard of memory foam mattresses. What you might not have heard though is that memory foam wasn’t originally designed for sleeping on. It was actually developed by Nasa in the 1970s in order to improve crash protection and seat cushioning for airline pilots.

Memory foam makes for great mattress material because it’s soft and can conform to the contours of your body. And, believe it or not, there are many other things other than just an uncomfortable bed that you can swap out for memory foam.

If you’re interested in learning more, then continue reading and we’ll go over everything that you’ll want to know!

1. An Uncomfortable Bed

Memory foam is perhaps best known as a mattress material. And there’s a good reason for this.

Beds that are made out of memory foam will actively mold to your body in response to pressure and heat. This will allow the surface of the bed to evenly distribute your body weight when you lay on it and then return to its original shape when you get off.

Memory foam even provides temperature-control support.

Pretty much everyone knows that one’s body temperature can affect how well they sleep. What’s so cool about mattresses made from memory foam is that they use temperature-sensitive materials which lets the mattress adjust to your body heat.

As your body temperature goes up, the mattress will become softer in order to provide you with a good night’s sleep. And if you’re a hot sleeper, then you can even get a memory foam mattress with cooling features.

This kind of material will also provide you with health benefits by relieving any soreness, body aches, and pain. It’s also going to help you recover more quickly from injuries.

Memory foam is able to do this because it can displace pressure from pain points in the body. Areas that are painful will have a higher temperature than the rest of the body, so the memory foam will be able to reduce pressure to those areas.

Memory foam is also great for people with allergies. A standard mattress can contain thousands or even millions of dust mites. However, because a memory foam mattress is made out of polyurethane foam, its fibers prevent dust mites from collecting in the bed.

Because memory foam is so dense, allergens can’t accumulate as well in them.

2. Shoes

Memory foam is a great material to have in your shoes because it leads to a more even distribution of balance. The point of having this foam in your shoes is that it can ease the pressure that you typically feel on the balls of your feet. Whether you’re a professional runner or a regular person taking a walk, you’re going to normally feel this pressure.

The intensity is much greater when you run, however. In addition to this, memory foam sneakers are going to be able to absorb heel shock and improve the overall stability of the shoe.

Memory foam in shoes can also stop foot roll and provide you with arch support.

3. Seat Cushion

Many office chairs out there are uncomfortable and don’t offer any lumbar support. However, you can improve the lumbar support of your office chair by getting a high-quality memory foam cushion.

One of the biggest advantages of getting a memory foam cushion is that it can help with reducing back pain. This is because it’s going to provide you with evenly distributed support for your spine and hips.

And because each person’s back is different, memory foam will be able to mold to your specific body.

This kind of support will let you relax into your cushion without slouching or slumping. It will also promote good posture and can thus help with spinal alignment.

Many office chairs make people want to slump over but a memory foam cushion will offer you a comfortable and ergonomic alternative.

4. Pillow

If you suffer from headaches or back and neck pain, then you may be experiencing poor spinal alignment. And while a memory foam mattress will help keep your body aligned, your neck and head are going to suffer if you have a stiff and uncomfortable pillow.

By using a memory foam pillow, the warmth and weight of your head will help the foam reshape itself. The pillow will then give greater resistance under the heaviest parts of your head. It will also support the lighter and more pressure-sensitive neck area.

When your spine is properly aligned, you won’t toss and turn as much. This is all going to contribute to you having a deeper sleep and feeling more well-rested when you wake up in the morning.

A memory foam pillow can even help with sleep apnea. That’s because having proper spinal alignment can also help align the airways in your body which means that you’ll have an easier time breathing.

The Importance of Knowing About Memory Foam Alternatives

If you’re suffering from an uncomfortable bed or other hard and awkward household items, then you should definitely consider swapping them out for memory foam. Memory foam is going to help keep you comfortable, cool, and happy.

Just make sure that you’re getting high-quality memory foam and that the manufacturer has good reviews. Not all memory foam is created equal, after all.
