No matter the era, Mercedes Benz has always proven to be a leader in the automotive industry. The company is a powerhouse when it comes to luxury, high performance, and innovation. These three components can be found in all of their cars, especially their latest concept car – the Mercedes EQXX sedan. However, this Merc concept could turn into a reality at some point.
Revealed not too long ago, this is truly a car of the future. Not only is it styled like one, but its performance knows no bounds whether we’re talking about speeding or a long range. A large part of it is made out of sustainable components so this car should satisfy every tree hugger on the planet. So, the EQXX deserves a tribute and the following piece delivers one:
Powertrain
Despite everything about this car being mind-boggling, it is the powertrain that is the real selling point. It should be noted that the electric powertrain is a lot smaller than the one on the currently offered Mercedes EQS. The EQXX sports a low-sitting 100-kWh battery pack that connects to an electric motor system to give out up to 241 horses.
Based on the electric vehicles of today, this really isn’t a stellar number by any means. However, you still get a great power-to-weight ratio as the car is very light. This disappointment (if any) applies to its top speed of 90 miles per hour as well. It does accelerate in a moderately quick manner. The 0 to 62 mph time for this car is around 7 seconds.
Of course, these figures can be beaten by even a 10-year-old Mercedes S-Class. But what won’t be beaten is the excellent range on this thing. When you charge it completely, the EQXX concept car can deliver up to 747 miles of range. Imagine the amount of fuel one can save if such a car is actually launched for the general public.
Interior
With an exterior like the one available on this car, you’d imagine that it would have a cabin design straight out of the Star Wars films. However, this isn’t true as you get a good-looking and realistic cabin design that looks even less modern than some of the other vehicles on the EQ range. You’ll notice the 47-inch long touchscreen similar to the hyperscreen on the dash.
If you observe the seats and the upholstery, you’ll find a material similar to regular leather which is made from cacti and mushrooms. The cabin is full of 3D-printed materials – you can find them in the center, on the steering wheel, on doors, etc. These also help in saving weight and are made from an eco-friendly process.
Even the carpets in the car are made up of bamboo – a first pretty much anywhere in the world. If you want to save even more weight, you can just get rid of them. Mind you, they’re so light that they won’t make a difference. There is one thing that will make quite a difference if you’re looking for a reliable supply of Mercedes parts, check out https://sts-global.com/mercedes-benz-parts.
Exterior
The outside of this car is extraordinary to say the least. Yes, it looks apart with all of its curves but each of them are there in order to make this car more aerodynamic. In fact, the EQXX is the more aerodynamic car today with a drag coefficient of just 0.17, beating the record set by its sibling, the Mercedes EQS.
Look at this car and it’ll hit you that the front is wider than the rear. It also has a very low nose, and the Merc logo on it is just a sticker instead of a proper badge to save some pounds. There is an air management system up front and you get an LED light that covers the whole front – which is something that Mercedes loves to do.
You get a set of flat-faced 20-inch wheels that aren’t made of carbon fiber, because it would be too heavy. Instead, they’re made from magnesium which is even lighter and stronger. Even the tires used are specifically built for this car by Bridgestone. They didn’t remove the door mirrors and replace them with cameras as it would actually be bad for the aero profile.
The roof of this car is also amazing since it can actually help recharge the car. That’s right, you get a whole layer of solar cells that absorb the sun’s energy to recuperate the car’s range. So, when you’re completing a run, the car will essentially recharge itself during the journey.
With all of the highlights above, it is certain that the Mercedes EQXX could become a hit if they:
- Reduced the acceleration time
- Put even more solar panels on its roof
