Types of Coffee Beans
Let’s quickly run through different types of coffee beans before we talk about the kinds of drinks you can make with them. There are mainly two types of coffee beans, the Arabica and Robusta and they each taste different and can be used in a variety of ways.
Robusta Coffee Beans
The cheaper option of the two. It has a strong bitter flavor along with high caffeine content. These types of beans are generally good for any slow morning days that need the extra strength to get out of sleep. Robusta is regularly served as espresso and instant coffee because of its price tag and caffeine.
Arabica Coffee Beans
Arabica coffee beans are the sweeter option of the two and is usually what is used for the popular black coffee mix because of its complex mature flavor when drank straight. It doesn’t contain as much caffeine than Robusta but can still provide the same kick you need to start the day.
Types of Coffee Beans
In modern times, there are many ways to enjoy coffee. Some prefer drinking it straight while others prefer adding some milk or cream and some even integrate the taste and product to food like cakes. Whichever way you enjoy taking your coffee, there is no wrong way as long as you can enjoy the drink. However here are some ways that specialty coffee is prepared and how they are prepared.
- Black
Perhaps the simplest way to prepare coffee. Black coffee mostly involves steeping coffee beans with hot water and is served immediately without any milk or sugar. Depending on the beans used, it can either have a sweet after taste or it can leave a bitter taste.
- Espresso
A popular way to serve coffee and also serves as a base for other ways to prepare coffee. An espresso is prepared in a similar fashion to black coffee but is different as the coffee beans are forced on by hot water under high pressure making the resulting drink more concentrated than black coffee which would have an even spread.
- Latte & Cappuccino
Arguably the most popular drink, made from a shot of espresso and milk. A latte is a minimalistic and simple way of serving coffee. It offers a creamy and sweet taste which can be further amplified by adding flavors such as vanilla, pumpkin spice and caramel.
A cappuccino is a latte made with steamed milk instead to make it foamier than a latter. Cream can also be used as a substitute in some cases.
- Americano
An Americano is the same as a black coffee but is not as strong in taste when compared to it. An Americano is typically made with a shot of espresso that has been diluted with hot water.
- Mocha
Mocha, just like Latte, is made by mixing together a shot of Espresso with steamed milk but chocolate is mixed along with the drink to make it have a sweet sticky texture similar to cream. It’s the perfect drink for coffee and chocolate lovers alike
- Affogato
A rather unique take on how to serve coffee. This coffee drink that’s perfect for dessert, is typically served with a brownie underneath with ice cream and a shot of espresso or two, making it a unique experience.
