7 great ideas for children’s bedrooms

The kids’ bedroom usually doesn’t make it to the grand home design plans. However, your children’s room is where your little ones spend most of their time; a thoughtful and smart design can make their space more functional and welcoming.

A kid’s room plays many roles: playroom, bedroom, workspace. Kids sleep, set their imaginations free, do homework, learn new skills, and grow in their bedrooms. Spending some extra time designing the best possible space for them will be worth it.

Incorporate patterns and textures

Wonder what makes Pinterest’s kids’ bedroom pictures so aesthetically pleasing? Those designers use a secret weapon: patterns and textures. While simple, the use of different textures and patterns is usually neglected. Textures add an eye-catching contrast, while mixing patterns add color and make the room more fun. These elements can transform a blah room into a Pinterest-worthy bedroom.

Relax or stimulation? Choose colors carefully

What colors to pick for your children’s bedroom? Deciding the color of a room is challenging enough. But beyond aesthetics, you probably know that color physiology plays a crucial role in how a room makes us feel. Custom home builders South Carolina reminds us of the importance of taking a little extra time picking the color palette for your kids’ room.

Bright, bold colors are attractive to little ones but may not be suitable for rest and relaxation. After all, the bedroom’s primary purpose is to provide a place to sleep safely and soundly. But, as mentioned, your kids will do more than sleep in their bedrooms. So, what colors should you pick? The best is to go for neutral colors and add some fun through bolder artwork or furniture.

Smart storage

Smart storage is a rule that applies to all your home spaces, but it’s particularly beneficial in your kids’ bedrooms. Why? Because it is no secret kids can be messy – and they are not big fans of tidying up their rooms. Choose baskets, tubs, and open shelving units that encourage kids to clean up their room and put toys away at the end of the day.

Display their passions

You can give your children’s bedroom the feel of the rest of your home design, but remember that their room is their special place. If your kids are already developing passions or interests, don’t hesitate to add them to their room design. If they are into painting, add a little art corner. Or, if one of your kids loves music, you can decorate a wall with their favorite artists’ CDs, vinyl, or posters. You can ask them for ideas about what they would like to have in their rooms and work together on the decoration.

Don’t forget about a workspace

The bedroom is not only about games and rest; your older kids may use their rooms to read, do homework, and as a study room. Kids need a desk to be productive – even if they use it for homework or to draw and play. Ensure their desk has good lighting; if possible, place it near a window for plenty of natural light. You can also use a desk lamp. Find a comfortable chair, and you’ll be all set. Or you can take it a step forward and enhance your kids’ workspace with a whiteboard or chalkboard, a bookshelf, and fun artwork.

Give them a getaway space

Think of your children’s bedroom as their own tiny home. That’s where they go when they need rest and alone time, where they unleash their creativity, study, and can always be themselves. We all need a getaway space in our homes; your kids must have one, too. For example, a reading nook is an ideal place for some quality alone time – and it encourages children to read and disconnect from electronics. You can build a cozy corner with pillows, blankets, and stuffed animals.

Keep it fun

Above all the practical and aesthetic bedroom design tips, remember that kids want to have fun, have a good time, and enjoy life. Use colors that sparkle your kids’ creativity and add fun patterns for lamps and cushions. Add bunk beds or trundle beds if you plan to have sleepovers. You can even install a swing or trapeze to encourage physical activity and the development of their bodies and minds.

Final thoughts

Your kids’ bedroom is more than just where they sleep and play. They will grow, learn, and live some of their first experiences in that room. Through a good design, parents can create a welcoming and functional environment where they can develop their many skills and qualities. You can use these 7 ideas, and don’t hesitate to contact professional designers to help you build your kids’ dream bedroom.
