7 Classroom Theme Ideas That Are Sure to Inspire Your Students

Decorating your classroom may be a favorite activity of yours when it comes to the start of a new school year. But with so many different themes and decor options out there, it may be hard to nail down just one idea.

No matter what theme you go with, you may want learning-friendly posters. Providers like Sproutbrite offer many educational, inspirational, and fun signs to decorate your classroom walls.

Perhaps browsing decor options helps you narrow down a theme. If not, here are seven different theme ideas that may inspire you.

Desert

A great theme idea is to decorate your classroom like a desert. Cactuses, desert animals, tumbleweeds, and other appropriate decorations can add some interest to your walls. You can make a desert-themed reading/quiet nook with some plush camels and fake cactus plants.

This theme can also allow you to teach your kids about the desert in ways that relate to the standard curriculum for the year.

Rainforest

Similar to a desert theme, creating a classroom rainforest can be a great way to teach kids about the ecosystem. Rainforests can offer a greener color scheme with a more abundant variety of plants.

This theme can also be used as an introduction to the importance of the environment and conservation. You can put up age-appropriate facts about rainforests and their importance to the planet.

Travel

One way to combine a fun classroom environment with learning about different places and cultures is to make a travel-themed classroom. You can decorate other areas as different places, have signs with fun facts about various cultures and countries, and feature books and even accessories about and from different cultures.

This theme can be a great way to show your students the massive diversity of cultures and people.

Camping

A camping theme may be perfect if you are looking for creative ways to implement reading nooks into your classroom. A tent can be a brilliant reading space. Combine that with the fun designs children’s tents come in, a classroom library, and wilderness facts, and you have one of the best environments to read and learn in.

There are also many opportunities to vary this theme throughout the year if you like to change things up every semester. One quarter, your students may be camping in the mountains, but by the end of the year, they’ve ventured into the tropical rainforest.

Space

Space can be a fun theme. You can lean into science fiction and include aliens and spaceships in your decorations. Or, you can show your students a more reality-based version of space that still inspires them to learn.

A space theme can encourage your kids to reach for the stars and push the bounds of what they can achieve.

Art

Art can be a fun, colorful theme. You can decorate your classroom wall with posters of crayons, shapes, wall stickers, and even your students’ drawings and crafts. This theme can be great for encouraging creativity.

You can also display various professional artists’ creations and give your students information about their hard work and passion. Probably the best part of an art theme is showing your students that failure is part of the process of success and that sometimes accidents can lead to great things.

Dinosaurs

What child (or adult) doesn’t love dinosaurs? A Mesozoic-era classroom is just a fun place to be. There are plenty of creatures you can choose to put on your walls and around your shelves and tables. You may find fossil displays or realistic dinosaur models to place around your room. There are also many interesting facts about dinos that your students will find cool.

You can also spark an interest in some young paleontologists by introducing them to the science of dinosaurs and their fossils.

Wrap up

Decorating your classroom can be fun, distinctly when you’ve found a theme you like. A lively classroom can be a better place for students to learn as well (though overdoing it can make it harder for them to concentrate).

Overall, many exciting themes can inspire students in many ways. Whatever theme you go with will make for an enriching learning environment.
