Vietnam is a truly unique country, and if you are planning a holiday in this Southeast Asian nation, you are certainly in for a treat. There is so much to see and do while you are there, and in order to assist you in your preparation, we present a few amazing facts about Vietnam that you probably didn’t know.

  1. The largest cave in the world is in Vietnam – Son Doong Cave is located in the heart of the Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park in Quang Binh Province, and the vast chambers are truly breathtaking, with their own unique ecosystem and stunning vegetation. If you love natural beauty, this is a must-visit attraction and don’t forget to take your digital camera. Whether you stay in a luxurious 5 star resort in Phu Quoc or budget accommodation in Ha Long Bay, Vietnam has so much to offer.
  2. There are more than 2,300 rivers in Vietnam – The two major rivers are the Mekong in the south and the Red River in the north, yet there are so many waterways that spread across the country. The Mekhong Delta is where many other waterways begin, and they run like a network through the entire nation. The country’s huge agriculture sector relies heavily on the rivers, which feed the rice fields, and you can book river tours on luxury boats.
  3. Vietnam is the world’s second largest coffee exporter – This will probably surprise you; only Brazil exports more coffee than Vietnam, and the difference is marginal. Who knows? Vietnam could overtake the huge South American exporter in the next few years. If you are a coffee lover, you can enjoy a wide range of delicious blends wherever you happen to be; coffee is consumed in every part of Vietnam. If you are a solo traveller, here are a few essential tips.
  4. Ha Long Bay is Home to 1,963 islands – Yes, you read that correctly; Ha Long Bay is one of the top-rated tourist attractions in the country, and there are so many small islands that you can explore. There are quite a few amazing caves, as well as over 1,900 species of wildlife that live within a unique ecosystem. If you are looking for a great beach venue to spend your downtime, Ha Long Bay would be hard to beat.
  5. Cu Chi Tunnels – As you probably know, Vietnam won the war against the US, and one of the reasons was the 200km network of tunnels they constructed. You can join a guided tour of the tunnels with an English-speaking guide who explains the amazing history behind this unique feature.

Many foreign tourists choose Vietnam for many reasons, and tourism figures are rising every year. It won’t be long before Vietnam surpasses Thailand as the number one tourist destination in Southeast Asia.
