3 Easy Ways To Get Your New York Boating License In 2022

Not many places offer boaters as much diversity (or serenity) as New York State’s waterways. The Atlantic Ocean, the Long Island Sound, the Adirondack Lakes, the Hudson, the Finger Lakes, St. Lawrence Rivers, the Great Lakes, and many more such boating destinations are accessible from different parts of the state, making it perfect for true boat lovers. But, the question is how to get a boat license in New York?

When it comes to navigating through the waters of the Empire State, make sure you are well equipped to stay secure and legal so that you can spend as much time as you can in the water. If you are interested in getting a license, ilearntoboat.com offers a NY boat license before you sail through the New York waters. License is imperative so that you can make the most out of your boating adventure without having to worry about compliance issues.

Here are three simple ways to get your New York Boating License in 2022.

1. Taking Care of Age Limitation to Get a Boat in New York

To get a license in New York, you must be at least ten years old and an adult, preferably a guardian, should accompany you. According to Brianna’s legislation, the amended age criteria for acquiring a Marine Safety Certificate are below:

  • By January 2020, anyone with the date of birth of January 1, 1993, or a subsequent date will require a New York Butter Safety Education Certificate.
  • By January 2022, anyone with the date of birth of January 1, 1988, or a subsequent date will require a New York Boater Safety Education Certificate.
  • By January 2023, anyone with the date of birth of January 1, 1983, or a subsequent date will require a New York Boater Safety Education Certificate.
  • By January 2024, anyone with the date of birth of January 1, 1978, or a subsequent date will require a New York Butter Safety Education Certificate.
  • By January 2025, everyone will require a New York Boater Safety Education Certificate.

2. Understanding Types of Boats Required to Get a Licensed in New York

In New York, any motorboat operator is subject to Brianna’s legislation and this rule is applicable for operating all boats including fishing boats, jet skis, pontoon boats, racing boats, etc. If the boat has a motor, a qualified operator is required. You do not need a boating safety certificate if you are sailing a boat, kayak, canoe, paddleboard, rowboat, or any non-motorized watercraft.

3. Taking a Boating Safety License Course

In New York, some boat drivers and operators must obtain a boating license certificate. These online courses are divided into sections or chapters and are expected to take approximately three hours to complete. However, you do not have to finish the whole course in one sitting.

After completing the course, you will be ready to take the exam. If you pass the exam, you will be able to print your boating license and sail without any restrictions.

Boating can be a source of entertainment, and staying away from the city for a day to explore the waterways of New York with family or friends is always a great way to relax and unwind. However, it is always a good idea to consider protecting yourself and others, and you must have a valid New York boating license. Also, ensure you have the necessary certifications to operate your boat in New York, and you know everything about sailing safely and legally.
